    More Coin talk #3

I did some math .But here is the intro .Any one these days concerning silver, will say - should of - could of - when it comes to silver coins that being said , this is about copper . Since i consistently see copper rounds being sold and bars for that matter I see more room for topic. I like E bay as it is the mood of the world & you can see what people want (right or wrong) Lets make one thing clear saving money - dollar for dollar is better then spending all your money and not saving & at the very least we all should consider that .Then from that platform what is the best investments . On paper investments can win big and vanish into thin air never to return - As any scrapper knows all metals can pay well or take hits down but it will always have some kinda value as long as you are holding the material (physically holding - not on paper) 100 pounds of aluminum is money and probably always will. So lets get to it
    -------------
Copper rounds 1 OZ sell for under a $1 to $4 depending on the emotional sale the buy it now price is the going rate but with some foot work and spending bulk money a $1 per OZ is doable
From the US mint we have Ike's 1/2 dollars quarters dimes nickels pennies
so what are the melt values
    1) The cu round - melt value per coin is .23 cents
    2) The Ike - melt value per coin is .19 cents
    3) 1/2 dollars - quarters - dimes - are mathematically equal to the IKE
    4) The nickel melt value per coin is .05 even money .
    5) Pennies per coin .02 or .23 per OZ $2.32 for a $1 worth

    math figured based on
    Copper Price: $3.5219 / pound
    Zinc Price: $0.8866 / pound
    Nickel Price: $7.4953 / pound
    ----------------------------------
The cost of the CU round exceeds the melt value - as also can be said of the IKE
To add insult to injury Quarters - Dimes at face value are a better price then CU rounds - as the melt is close to the CU round - and the face price to get Quarters Dimes is better then CU rounds. If barter became a reality the going price of copper is going to be a factor , further more if barter became a reality, then that would be some kinda - MAD MAX - ruination of what we know and love . Under those circumstances I bet the melting of coins will be lawful.
If one is gambling on the end of our monetary system & denomination why not just get copper quarters at way less money the the CU rounds.

Pennies are best and nickels will most likely follow suit if and when they become ZINC

So there you have it . We as scrappers know one thing - the price being paid for any metal is the truth
people can charge what they want for Cu Rounds but at the end of the day the price per LB for copper is what you have to except.
If I could hypothetically speaking dollar for dollar exchange my paper money for coins - silver - gold - As per a fear of death of our paper money I would as its a safe source of true value. Even the IKE is a real usable base metal - It's a sad thought but some day the world will correct itself and metals will be the reality of that correction
--- But the true KING is food ---

Couldnt agree more. Well written and very informative. I would have to disagree with your last point being food is KING. Ammo is king. For if you have food and no way to protect it then those with the ammo will take your food.

I need a gun - true - one never knows the day you need protect your self big time .I don't have a gun, but shot them sure & not a bad shot I am . I remember a story a friend told me after he did a paint ball field game (he is a gun collector) He said to me "don't believe what you see on TV about gun fights , Cause even in paint ball when people start aiming at you and shooting you get hit I see now if I get into a gun fight using my collection chances are I will also get shot. "

Sustenance - a person of average health deprived of water for 4 days is dead or ready to go, actually the going standard is 3 days no water we are dead ,I find it hard to believe how vulnerable we are & no food 30 days, more or less over also .The human brain needs nourishment unlike any other earth inhalants.
