    Blood scrap money

Did my first Crags List ad last sun , & today did a clean out with moving - Received $150 pay & $150 worth of tools & $25 worth of sundries & $30 worth of steel. worked from 8:30 till 7:30 and saw the sadness of someone loosing their home to the bank did 3 trips to a storage bin Then the move to a room with shared bathroom - kitchen - compared to a 3000 SQ ft home . I need the money I worked for it
But I feel not happy about it AT ALL !! But I pushed hard so nothing was left behind despite crying sadness on customers part. This was as sad as flood victim scrap (worse for me )

I know what it's like to loose your home. About 14 months ago I had to move out of the house that I had rented for almost 10 years. Got rid of every thing except my truck, tools and my closes and moved in with my sister. I knew if I had my truck and my tools I could start over again with my scrapping. Now 14 months latter I'm making between 400.00 and 600.00 per week thanks to everybody on this forum.

The poor economy and the silly stuff that happened in the houseing market caused much of this. You are providing a needed service and making sure your family is provided for so no one has to come clean out your house. It is sad but it is needed.

Happyscraper, you are one of many examples of why I and others suggest newbees read the old threads and study here. There are a lot of college grads currently unable to make your kind of income. Many were told the only way to get a good job is get a college education and now many just owe the government big money for that education. Stay independent minded and work hard you will get there. Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked

I can add this , The customer was a woman who was working towards a PHD . He husband split then with spite did cash advances to the tune of $ 40,000 . Here is the unfair catch the woman was paying her mortgage but could not pay the credit cards, then the credit card companies put a lien on property , Then I was told (& I believe it) The mortgage company called the loan with a request for full pay out , Causing the foreclosure , The house was amicably dealt with by the lawyers and woman with a vacating date, and sure enough house was sold from under her fast . The credit companies have leverage to destroy your life .
Now it's all over with, but I wonder if setting up a home as a - Homestead - would have protected it. Having young children in home might of changed the outcome also . But the housing market being soft probably also did not allow for a refinance . She only owed $42,000
but with the soft market house is worth around $60,000 to $70,000 It was a very very nice home
    -------------------
Yes It puts the fear in me as I don't want some one here for the clean out.

Copperhead, just remember you did this woman a service and it is not your fault she lost her home. If you hadn't done it someone else would have, either way she's out and that was determined before you ever got there.

I know. My first foreclosure Cleanout I had tears streaming down my cheeks as I was shoveling wedding pictures off the floor.

My brother went through a forclosure. I remember the day they told me they were loosing the house and all the fighting they did to keep it...my landlord even offered to buy the house and rent it to them...only the rent would have been more than they could afford. I spent a week getting little to no sleep, living off Red Bull and junk food to help get their house cleaned out...3 large storage units later they finally had everything out. I was there the morning the sheriff showed up to change the locks. My brother, sister-in-law, and 2 nephews spent a month living in a camper in my back yard until they could find a place to rent...(it was that or a cheap motel...all I could offer was a camper but at least there were no roaches)...

i think the most intense moving job i was called in on was a major bitter divorce situation located at a house on the cliffs of new jersey with the million dollar view of the new york skyline.

everything every step of the way was laid out by a judge with a detailed timeline.

10 am sharp the wife and daughter with police and lawyer escort had a list of items that were hammered out by both legal teams and signed by the judge that they were permitted to remove from the house.the husband along with his legal team as well as "personal security" were waiting on the porch as we pulled in.

it was a war zone as each item was identified and checked off the list.you could feel the seething hate in the room and loading stuff inside the truck was a welcome relief from the shouting match going on inside the house.

the insults and vocal jabs these people tossed at each other was enough to make your ears bleed...and it was non stop even as the last piece was strapped in he followed the car she was in to the end of the driveway practically frothing at the mouth slinging more trash talk at her.

police were there to make sure it didn't get "physical" and the "personal security" guys had that look to them that you just know it would be unwise to try anything foolish.

this call was a referral from one of my lawyer contacts so i was totally briefed on what to expect and just rolled with it.

had this been a cold call............

I don't do cleanouts but I have scrapped from houses where they have vacated because of reasons economical and I feel guilty as heck profiting off someone elses misfortune. You just can't help it, its human nature.
