    Nice Score Today

Got a tad bit excited while curb shopping today. First when I picked the kid up earlier I filled my truck on the way home and I only went 2 miles. Then tonight me the other kid and his friend went for a run w/the trailer and got an excellent haul, lots of good money makers. Then I found a bit of an older computer and found this... my first gold one out of a computer.

Sorry about the crappy pictures, my camera isn't so great. But I was excited and wanted to share.

For some reason it's been blurring or just not taking good photos if I try to get closer than about 3ft.

there might be better than scrap parts in there. Wish I could see the numbers on that cpu. On the bottom (pin side) do any of those rows of numbers end with a dash, followed by a number? (such as -25, -66, -90 etc)

you should be able to get a pretty decent picture with it Auntie. For close ups do you put it on the flower icon setting? Do you ever use the delayed snap? It's a simple setting that you set just prior to the snap, most i've seen have a 2 second and a 10 second delay, i generally use the 2 second because it's plenty of time to steady it up for the snap. Does wonders on close-ups and long zoom shots. Also you can just stand back a bit and use the regular(not close-up) setting, it's probably on that when you turn it on. Then use the optical zoom to bring it a bit closer. I seldom go past the optical zoom because digital zoom looses clarity.

ok, that -90, that's a 90 mhz CPU, probably not real vintage, still wouldn't hurt to google the motherboard numbers to see if any are listed for sale. If you have the motherboard fairly well emptied for a good look at the board, you should find either a brand and number, or just a number. It can be as simple as AOpen AX6BC, or more complicated, but it should be clearly visible on the board

Never used the delayed snap or the flower icon. I just turn it on and push the button when I'm ready, and I don't use the zoom because for pictures that I've wanted to have printed it distorts them. Never thought about it for things like this. Thanks Bear, I'll play around with a bit and see if it works better trying those things.

***The computer that CPU came out of was a Dell 1994 Optiplex xm590 model no.DPM
Not only was it my 1st gold cpu, it was the first time I had a computer that big to take apart, needless to say I saw the "intel pentium inside" sticker on the outside so I just opened it and lifted the heat sink to see what it looked like...the rest is still on the floor.

BTW Thanks for all the info Bear, I've wrote it all down for future reference! I'll check on that motherboard tomorrow, I swore I was not working on a Wed. anymore but I sliced my leg open earlier today (No stitches either, I used those steri-strip things to tape it closed then gauze and paper tape to cover it up) so I guess my injuries are not exclusive to Wed. anymore lmao So I may as well do my morning curb shopping since it's normally my best day. I'll let you know what I come up with on the motherboard. Again Thanks for all the info.

Sorry for all the rambling, way past my bedtime.

The computer is probably just scrappable, unless maybe it has an interesting board in it, video, soundcard etc, just look for a name on it and a number and google it, usually the results will have a couple ebay links to look at, and you can do further searches from there.

As long as you stay within your optical zoom, it shouldn't distort, it's the digital zoom that does that. If you'll watch the slider as you're zooming in, it will reach a point where it reaches the end of it's optical range and switches over to digital, just stop zooming when you reach that point, or before. Optical is using lenses, much like pulling a magnifying glass up for a larger view. Digital zoom is like stretching a balloon, that's why it distorts. It does enlarge it, but at the cost of clarity
And the 2 second delay does wonders for closeups, I use it on almost all still shots. It gives you a chance to steady up before the snap, and isn't busy taking a shot while i'm busy trying to push the button

While your looking at the board check for any leaking/blown/bulged can caps on the board. If there's any then it's scrap

The SX957 would have been a good collector chip. But since most of the name on the chip is missing it is not worth keeping.

Nice find. Grats. If it had a 5.25 disc drive that is worth some money as well.
