Dewalt / Ryobi

Just FYI 12 years ago I purchased a Dewalt kit $500 since I felt it was so good at the time -I also picked up a low cost Ryobi kit @ $200 (12 years ago ) as my no worry kit , kill it kit .

All tools work but one of the drill the gears sheared
also the batteries never seem to last more then 4 to 5 years

I have even mixed thin-set

I am happy I picked up the low cost RTOBI cause it's all i am using ,
till I spend $80 or so on some new batteries

i've read there's ways to rejuvenate those batteries, but haven't tried it. Not sure if it works, or if it's possible on every type, but searching on my particular 18V it said hook two car batteries in series for 24V, with a wire from each end, to touch the cordless battery posts two or 3 short jolts, somehow supposed to bring it back alive. I'd need to search it again for all the details

The only Dewalt tool I'm impressed with is my electric powered sawzall........In my opinion their cordless tools are junk

LOL ummmm yea...Bear, give us a heads up on that one. We will be sure to properly dispose of you, and the blown up batteries, in a manner consistent with all applicable local and state laws

CH...I love my Ryobi kit. Batteries are charged and ready to take out a pool for our mailman tomorrow.

I bought a Ryobi kit years ago because i figured even if it went bad in half the time i could buy 3 for the price of the "name" brands. It lasted me quite a few years, although i had to replace the batteries a time or two. My dad has the Ridgid brand and their warranty covers batteries. He has a service center near him and they have completely replaced the batteries on one or two occassions over the last 6-7 years. Recently I broke down and got the Dewalt 20amp driver and impact and love them. My part time job has me working on machinery and these things are light and powerful and i got them on sale...great tools.

I got a 36 volt fe walt set a couple of years ago. they quit making them in less then a month. they are so powerful they are dangerous but I complete dissassembled a pick up and a mobile home with the sawesall.

Yeah with the electric sawzall I have cut up 3 mobile homes, a 48" aluminum trailer, 100's of AC units and only God knows what else........The reason I got it was because I bought a cordless and it wouldn't charge up so I went and got an extension cord and the electric sawzall and never looked back

Oh yeah I forgot about the 40ft steel houseboat.......That was interesting......Found 75lbs of lead in the bottom of it (LOL)

When I bought my Dewalt set, they were top of the line. I was using it commercially for hours on end every day. THings have changed. However, the way you charge them will have an effect on the battery life.

I have done the "shock the battery back to life trick" and it does work for about a week and then craps out again. Not worth the time...just buy a new battery.
