Hopefully P76 you're better than the squirrels. Supposedly they find only 10% of the nuts they bury. How many locations of scrap piles can you carry in your head before things start to get a bit fuzzy?? I know in the past I start missing a few traps in the muskrat sloughs after about 3 dozen or so locations (sort of kidding, sort of not):lol:
P.S. Flagging them helps out but on public land there is always risk of theft. Part of the game I guess...
Sorry Tater, do not want to hijack your thread, but if I had 3 dozen piles and remember 10%, I would be a happy camper. Truth is there is over 50 tons on an abandoned farm of prepared # 1 iron. Someone helped themselves to about 10 tons before Christmas, so game cameras were set around the rest. Hope to get back to the ranch this week to see if any is left or if a record of their activity is on the camera. Who knows, the camera might be gone as well. So here is a toast to the squirrels and their missing nuts. Hopefully my nuts will still be there when I return.Quote:

Tater, those 15 inch gm rally wheels sell good on ebay, the wider the better.
Yeah these are the narrower rims. Still 10X better looking than those wagon spokes. Plus they were basically free and now I have 10 rims and tires for that trailer or anything with the big bolt Chevy pattern.Quote:

Tater, you are very creative and ideas are stolen from you constantly. The wheels are great, but I never put the good stuff on my trailer. It is bound to get destroyed, so the luxury items are added to trailers to be sold. The exception is ten ply plus tires. Those are put on the private trailers.
Love the new welder and it will pay you big dividends for a long time to come. Use of a wire feed is limited to art projects because of lack of experience. Stick welding is the choice for trailers, equipment, and most applications around here.
Glad you are keeping busy during these slow times.
I go the extra mile for you tater. We're both part of the greatness that came out of the 2012 class.

Trany seams solid and motor runs great after a tune up. I keep everything for a sbc tune on hand for evaluation purposes, motor and trany are sold.

Btw don't ever buy ANY Milwaukee sawzalls. Overpriced JUNK !!! Mine junked out after less a year of actual use and they wouldn't stand behind it ! Going to hf.
Got a skil sawzall from menards for way less than what that Milwaukee cost and it has all the features I need.
My first sawzall, rip, was skil as well and it lasted for bout 8 years of pure abuse and neglect.
I'm so disappointed with Milwaukee, you'd think for as much as they cost they'd stand behind it for more than a year.
Although I do like some stuff from Harbor Freight I'm glad you passed on their sawzall...I ended up returning their best one last year that lasted less then a month. My Dewalt had died after years on use on wood and metal so I ended up getting another one.
Ive had my dewalt for 4 years and it's been to hell and back and still runs like a champ. Have dropped it in mud, cut tons of steel with it, tons of demo, dropped it numerous times, got it soaking wet, cut down small trees it's a champ and I reccomend dewalt. There lithium also is one of the best lasting batteries.
I have to agree on dewalt. I have a dewalt chop saw that's cut tons and tons and over 5 years later still works great.
That's what I expect when I buy power tools. Don't want to have to keep track of a warranty because it won't last a whole year. I don't mind paying for quality but I expect more than a name plate when I buy.

Had this super clean monte DELIVERED to my door for under 200$ ! Bought it off another scrapper who couldn't afford to hold on to it any longer. Got a blown motor but at this low price the cat should almost cover half the purchase price so I won't have much tied up in it.

P.S. So if you know what the biggest issue with a potential junker, say like that monte, it wasn't a blown engine but a crapped out tranny, is it worth taking apart a big piece if it has a lot of other metal like alum in it (isn't the housing of most automatic trannys aluminum?). Granted there is time involved hoisting everything out but is it worth it to recover larger alum pieces, especially if you're mostly stocking piling right now? I'll probably never get into scrapping vehicles but it would be interesting to know how far "down in the weeds" guys are willing to go (routinely) to get maximum coin out of a motor vehicle...I know ozzy sort of detailed some of it recently but I'm still sort of fuzzy (and yes, I tried looking through old threads. I couldn't seem to find a general check list of scrapping cars. My apologies if there is one...).
Yeah tranys are almost always aluminum, except for some of the manuals. Usually I dont strip em down just thrown in for al breakage.
All the car goodies I usually pull :
Cat
Battery
Radiator
Aluminum rims
Any good used tires
And sometimes I pull the brake drums or rotors As well.
My latest score, a 100 buck running and driving car, needs motor mounts.

Gona be a daily driver for a while til I use it as a demo car. Has the 2.5 4 cylinder so pretty good fuel mileage. Can't beleive it, bought a running driving car with a title for 100$ !!! Been a dam long time since I was able to say that.
If you don't mind me asking where does one pick up a car for $100..... Craigslist? Trade in auctions? Police impound auctions? Great find, and is it worth it to part out any of these vehicles like seats, mirrors, car matts, seatbelts, glove box, console, dash, steering wheel. I see these parts go on craigslist like crazy, if there not damaged I'm sure they'd sell good.
Buying cars boils down to one thing, being in the right place at the right time. This car is a 89 so selling parts would be tough. Most generally it's pretty hard to sell parts that are 96 and older.
