Well my friends, looks like my scrap career is over

Well I hate to say this but my short lived scrapping hobby is soon to be over. its sadecause I really loved scrapping, and I mean everything ABOUT it. I will be leaving for college, and sadly I probably won't have the time to scrap again until next summer if I don't join some sort of armed forces. I'm sorry my friends, even though most of you have never heard of me good luck guys

UUUUHHHHHHH........ wait. You an still do scrapping in specialized areas that won't take up any room and take hardly any time to do/implement. You could just focus on things like batteries(the lithium or NH ones), at college you can be the CAN man, cell phones, it's endless! Make your own niche and run with it bro. By doing this you won't have to sacrifice study time, hangin out , or whatever.

Hope that you do well in college regardless and that it leads you to bigger and better things my friend. Good luck to you!

Get back to school, study hard and put that money to good use. Forget about scrapping for 9 months. Be a college kid and enjoy it! Once you get your education figure out a smarter, faster and easier way to scrapping.

My neighbor started to scrap at school for extra money. Now he and his buddy remove heavy equipment from farms as well, one more semester and he graduates. I tell him whatever he does he will scrap.

What will you be majoring in?

I spent a lot of time as a broke college student. One time I even sold my unused books for cigarette money. Seriously. Had I known about scrapping back then, I would have done at least a little bit to bring in beer and cigarette money. My dorm room was a single anyway, so nobody would have complained.

Remember your scrapping skills when you and your friends are all broke and want to take a road trip. Three or four guys can come up with a few bucks in between classes easily!

What better place to get scrap then from an area where people are spending other peoples money and have little regard for property.

I think the first thing I'd do is find those dumpsters and check on them every day.
And I hope you read what KZBell wrote. I just wonder how easy/difficult it might
be to inspire all your "new friends" to help you out while they earn gas, food and
beer money. And if you need to store your product somewhere off-sight, many of
the residents may be open to helping out with an unused backyard shed.

why not network with the school itself for broken computers and electronics. you could have access to some serious loads if you talk to the right people.

take it as an opportunity, rather than a limitation. good luck in school, my man. im in there with you, but i attend local and online, so i can keep working. somebody has to feed my cat.

While without a doubt you should focas on your education do forget scrapping knowledge will travel. Im new to it to and i wish i would have taken it more serious sooner because it sure would have helped through those other tough times as well.
Anyway the choice is yours but personaly if I was to see some easy loot just laying around i would have a hard time being to stupid lazy or proud not to cash it in.
Good luck to you and i wish you well with your studies how ever you decide. After all only you know whats best for you. Enjoy.

    What college?
And this is good news for me! less competition lol

But i am sure you will find yourself scrapping. It is too hard to walk or drive by a computer on the side of the road.

Well sir. I wish you the best in all that you do. I wouldn't put your scrapping on the back burner just yet. Going to a new area may open up new venues of scrapping that are not available in your current location. Although I do agree with the other posters, concentrate on your studies. However, never close your eyes to potential money making opportunities. If nothing else, you may be able to make extra money from used text books, or scrapping aluminum cans, or paper, or cardboard, or electronics. There are many areas that may open up nice extra income. Also, keep an eye out for other things to scrap. I mean there are alot more to scrap / recycle than just steel.

A few things to recycle for cash that you may not have thought of:

    Nylon Carpet - Carpet Padding
    Text Books
    Wooden Shipping Pallets
    CDs / DVDs
Tin Cans ( like what some foods come in )
cardboard ( lots of pizza boxes on a college campus )
    Newspapers (newsprint)
    Mixed Plastics
    Cloth (clothing)

The list just goes on and on. Just remember to Google anything and everything. You just might be surprised.

Again, I wish you only the best of luck. Study hard and think outside of the box. Doing so might just make you the next Bill Gates.

Not to mention all the computers and laptops and parts those students go thru. I know of a couple of young people that went to college for a few semesters and just had to have the latest and greatest computers for gaming. might put up a few flyers for the old stuff. good luck,,,

I paid for my 4 year degree at the university by working scrap metal and junkyards. I taught for 3 years and realized I liked scrapping better and made much more money at it, so I left teaching and hit it full time. College students have plenty of worn out cars and computers..be "that guy" and make the money (hippy chicks will love your recycling ways at school by the way)> Best of fortune to ya,scrap on...
