    A unique find

I found a large burn pit 3.5 feet round by 2 foot high it has a screen cover and a built band steel base to hold the whole thing . The large round container weighs 15 pounds and has zero rust the other parts are rusty (screen cover etc ) Hmm I notice this no rust container is very black and - um - has some greenish hue - that's - c - c - cO COPPER WOW I scratch a bit and yup there she is my orange gold friend

Wonder if it's worth restoring . I have seen and found these type of items before but they were steel as i thought this was as it was dark out when i found it . Who ever tossed it to the curb must of thought little of it ,
Not sure how to clean it .

CH I was reading a thread on here about cleaning copper, someone mentioned cleaning burnt copper wire with ketchup. I also know that a mix of lemon juice and salt will do the trick to. Try the ketchup if it doesn't work throw a BBQ rack on it, cook some burgers and you should get a nice smokey ketchup flavor cooked right in.

I have one of these in my backyard. Had it for probably 12 years. Gave it the ole magnet test the other month, copper. Its still there. Don't know if you are supposed to cook over copper though, I have only used it for party fires. Pretty sure I bought it for under $30 though.

Is what you found like those round patio fire pits? Looks like a bowl with legs on the bottom and a mesh screen cover for the top? If so thats a nice find, Ive only ever found steel ones.

Yes but no built in legs There is no grill so it's meant for party fire's , fire it up and wrap up some chicken in foil works well .

Nice find. I found one fire pit one time, heavier than some full size fridges, and it had a sort of chimney removable top on it..Turns out it was 40# bronze at the scrap yard.
