lead weights in old phones

I was going to toss into the bulky waste plastic, but decided to take them apart out of curiosity. to my surprise found a few lead wieghts. A couple in the recievers and one in the headset. A few had steel weights. makes me wonder how many hundreds of pounds of lead have been tossed thinking an old outdated phone was worthless!!

Yes many old phones have lead or steel weights also on old phones the bell will be brass.
