You could just about retire off this auction alone

However, given the propensity of some bidders to bid stupid prices, who knows.

1,800+ tons of metal. By my math at the prices I get, that's $335,340.

Wonder if KZscrapper wants in on it. Current bid is only a mere 130 grand.

GSA doesn't allow direct linking that I can tell, so go here, http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/aucindx/ and enter lot # 81QSCI13270001

Looking at that sites really interesting, soooo much stuff I could buy.......
ie Thermal cycler for DNA. http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/aucitsrh/

A quick look at wiki tells me ' Quality thermal cyclers often contain silver blocks to achieve fast temperature changes and uniform temperature throughout the block'

    Silver Blocks???!!! 6 inch X 4 inch X 1 inch, I'd guess.....
Thermal cycler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    ie. Thermal Cycler Blocks
UltraGradient silver thermal block for 384-well PCR plates suitable forQ-Cycler and S-96 thermal cyclers (Thermocycler)

Gold plated silver blocks....> GeneAmp® PCR System 9700, 96-Well Gold-Plated Silver Sample Block Module
Brand new price is between US$1500 & US$3000 each!

Link working again. I will be the first to admit that is way, way out of my league both logistically and financially. Also it's at the huge Federal Center Complex so Rules and Regs could change daily the way thing are going these days.

I was mostly being facetious. It's a huge job for any one. 3,726,000 lbs of steel, assuming they're correct. Wondering out loud....if it's ground level, or in a basement or what. Hard to tell from the pics, but wherever it is, it's a job for sure.

Speaking of rules/regs and bureaucracy in general. I won an auction from the Ogden, UT IRS facility back in 2009. Mom and I made a trip of it. We get there and at first they wouldn't let mom drive in because I "didn't tell them she was coming". Yeah, contact person didn't bother reading her email when I replied with details of who was coming. So we go back and forth a bit, guard looks at our licenses, looks in and around the truck, then calls another to see what he should do. Finally they decide to let us in. We go about 150 feet, they load the pallet, neither of us ended up getting out. Loading was far faster than the interrogation, then we got on down the road again.

If it was *such* an issue, then the forklift could have brought the pallet to the gate and loaded us. Really wasn't any need to complicate things.

Yea, but that would entail using some common sense and nowadays that is severely lacking.

I was about to leave mom at the gate so we could get loaded and back on the road again. Was a long day as it was. 6 hours each way. The whole time they were yakkin' about how I should have let them know who was coming I was trying to pull up my sent email on my slow as molasses phone. Not sure what prompted her, but the head person finally let us in. Btw this was my best copper score ever. 1,029 lbs for $310. Cashed in for $1903.65. I remember the weights/money because up until then I had piddly amounts of copper, so I was beyond ecstatic with this load. Only regret was not hanging on to it till copper hit $3/lb but live and learn.

No worries Idaho. The size and scope of the job didn't even register till I started looking at the pics.

For all we know it could be 10 stories underground...makes you wonder what was stored there.

They probably checked your bumper stickers before they checked your paperwork and had already decided you were going to be trouble.

Maybe. Maybe not. Depends on what kind of equipment and manpower the buyer needs to move nearly 4 million pounds of steel.

Hey, I know. Get a chain gang from the local prison to haul it out.

Wonder if Bohemian will see any of it come through his yard.
