my day at the auction

went to a equipment auction yesterday since I needed a trailer. I had my eye on three flat beds for hauling cars, first one went for 1300 (out of my range) next one went for 550 but needs a few hundred in work to make in usable so I passed on that. the last one I really wanted since it was a 20ft tilt with scrap on it, should have brought more money, it went for 1500. so I was out of luck on those, but the next one was a single axle with sides and in decent shape, threw a couple bids up and got it for 550. measured it and its 14ft long by about 6ft wide, title says its rated at almost 7000lbs. not to bad for a stater trailer, should make my money back quick with it. I stuck around to see what some other items were going for and think I might go to more of these to try and by scrap

I'd say you got a good deal. A couple or three loads and you should have your money back. Then a few more loads - sell this one and buy an 18-20' dual axle and start hauling cars. Plus bigger loads.

thats the plan right now, also thought about adding another axle. I'd still be able to haul some cars with it but I'll definitely be getting a bigger car hauler as business picks up

thanks all, with time it will get painted and a=have advertising on it. in the middle now about starting a LLC, right now this is a hobby

Careful with the advertising until you have all your ducks in a row. Your city/state at some point will consider you a commercial vehicle and require inspection and further scrutiny...if you have any violations it could mean a big fine. I always tow safe and have proper precautions in place while staying somewhat incognito.

A/C's are chained down with come-a-longs under the tarp.

KZ on that one I have to disagree with you buddy. I get work every week from people who "saw my truck". More than enough to offset the other costs you are concerned about.

my dad tells me about the wonders of the law, being a truck driver he has some experience, around me cops don't bother you simply because there aren't a lot but as I travel more I will certainly make sure everything is done right.

gino: it was a use equipment auction about an 50mins from me, they also have trucks and stuff and will mostly be where I get my stuff to expand

very true, I was surprised it's titled at 6900, might try and squeeze a car in there but it will definitely pay for it's self soon
