gewtting a truck towed to the yard (noobie questions)

ive never done this before.
it is an old ford 250 with wheels that dont roll so well
no engine, no tranny (how much weight have i lost right there?)
the guy has the title so im good on that
i figure ill call a 50dollar tow guy (it may be up to 30miles to the nearest scrap yard!)
and he can drive it straigvht to the scrap yard for me, yes?

is there any special requirements they may have for me? draining the fuel or something like that??
do i need to have the title exchanged at the dmv or something?

1st - call the yard. Some require fluids be drained; some don't but pay less than if it's drained.

2nd - look up the weight of that engine & transmission. With a $50 tow bill, I doubt there's much left. How much are you paying for it to start with?

Forgot the title. Usually - just need them to sign as seller. You don't sign till you get to the yard. They'll tell you where to sign - if at all.

$50.00 tow for 30 miles? I wish!!
Around here they charge $90.00 for an in town tow
Helping a lady last week and she had Her non start car towed to the local Mechanic, about 5 miles or less >> $90.00

Yup; around here it's 50-75$ to just put it on the hook plus so much per mile. good luck. If you have AAA you might get by with 50.00.

Sims Metal Management will process "wet" cars at certain locations. -

is that undrained vehicle? what do you do with all the 20y.o fuel??? burn it?

Improper fuel disposal creates an additional "tax" on legitimate recyclers nationwide.

I would not doubt that you still have 2 ton remaining on that old 250, an '85 gets on the scale at 6300 pounds, engine and tranny should not weigh more than 2300 pounds.
Still a good profit there. See if you can get some more scrap in the box also. Weigh 'er down man. Now is your chance. Maybe you can cover the tow that way...
