Rims.. Too Beautiful to Scrap!! Need Advice

All-
I have a fellow scrapper that helped teach me the ropes when I started scrapping cars. I was at his place last night and he had an absolutely beautiful set of 16" CHROME 15 spoke Chrysler Town and Country Rims sitting on the floor. I said "You aren't scrapping those are you?" He said "Hell yeah.. I want to use the $ to buy a tank of Argon." I told him I would sell them for him instead. I have them on CL as these REFURBED run $249 EACH.. So $1000 worth of rims and he wants to scrap them for $60 bucks.

It would be a CRIME to melt these rims- there is nothing wrong with them. My question is: Who can I call to try and sell these.. body shops? Chrysler dealership? I have no clue- I'm worried if they don't sell fast he'll just come by and get them for a trip to the core buyer. Really trying to save these beauts from being melted down- and a huge loss of potential profit if done right with a little patience. Since I am selling them for him- He has every right to say at any time "Give them back to me" as they are his after all.

Actually there's an SMF member who buys rims. I think his id is wheelbuyer or something like that? If you can locate him in the buyers threads it might be a good place to start

If he gets in that big of hurry offer to give him the scrap price and then you can sell em.

I have thought of that as well- Give him the $60 bucks, save him a trip to the core buyer.. win-win!!

its sad to say, when i started we had a set of ford explorer wheels looked brand new and had tires about 80% i think i listed them on cl for $100, i got offered everything but the $100, scrapped em out im sure i got 60 something for the wheels and $32 for the tires, i had some chrysler wheels to came off a sebring same story, its not worth the trouble answering the phone, waiting for someone not showing up , or someone trying to trade you some chickens or a video game, ill say again its really not worth it imo, to be honest your buddy has probably found out the same thats why hes scrapping them

Now if you can get a chicken and a video game for them...deal breaker! I kid I kid!

Just the thought of someone coming by and being like.."Hey, trade you a chicken and a video game for that there water heater you got..."..I shall be amused for hours now, thank you.

Those rims are probably bent. The vehicle that they were on was probably in a very bad accident.

I learned about situations like this when I saw some nice aluminum wheels on a truck in my local junkyard. I asked the guy at the counter how much he wanted for them and he explained why he explained why I wouldn't want them when I told him that they'd fit perfectly on my van.

He told me that it's very rare when they get a perfect set of wheels and when that happens, they get pulled and put on the shelf immediately. He also said that any time you still see them on a vehicle, chances are that they are only good for scrap.

I'm looking for a wheel for my truck. 1980 Ford ranger F100, 15" with 4 1/2" lug pattern and a 2 1/2" hub hole. Anyone in the Tampa Bay area has one let me know, I'll buy it for more than scrap.

Thanks all for your responses. I have had some luck selling rims on CL- but somehow the vibe seems to be the same as what you guys stated. I had a nice set of 17" Silverado 6 lugs that I got a mere $200 bucks out of, but I once had a really nice set of Ford 14" off an Escort Sport I scrapped. I tossed those on Craigslist too, and even put in the ad- "if these aren't gone by such and such a date.. I'm scrapping them" I was hoping to get like $100 bucks for all 4, and ended up at Core price of around $50.

I was just hoping someone here knew of another outlet besides CL to move these onto a new home.. ahem.. vehicle!
