    Broken Vehicles

Anyone got any info on the website brokenvehicles.com?

The reason I'm asking is I have a 1999 Honda Accord EX-L V6 that is in great shape just doesn't run and I'm not going to spend the money to fix it. I dont want to just scrap it. It needs axle work in the front and was my daily driver until it just wouldn't crank one morning. I've spent to much money keeping this thing on the road and now I have a 2002 Honda Accord that my brother in law gave me but I have to fix the AC on it. It needs a new compressor. I can take it to the scrap yard myself but I wanted to find a way someone would buy it for more than scrap and part it out because the leather interior is probably worth more than I would get for scrap. I saw this advertisement where they buy cars nationwide and I'm guessing are like a brokerage type place. Just thought I would check here before I did any deals with them.

Broken vehicles .com is alot like junkmycar.com as it is a 3rd party refferal site targeting scrappers towers and jaunkyards from experience any of the 3 will make an offer. check wheels for charity or another donation company of your choice lkq or auction house to seel if they will pay over scrap

sell it to someone who owns another one like it for a parts car. Advertise it as parts car. For someone who maintains their own vehicles, a parts car can be worth it's weight in gold, uhmm, scrap gold that is ; )

I called them and they told me the max they would give me is $700 for my car and they would tow it to a local insurance auction and auction it off I guess to repair places. So based off my curb weight of 2800 pounds and my yards price of 11.50 per 100 pounds if I scrapped it I would get $322 for scrap. If I pulled off the alloy wheels and radiator and all that I 'm guessing ~$500. I have zero experience scrapping cars though so is my estimate at least close?

I'll probably throw it on CL for 800-900 and see if I get a bite at least I have a $700 offer to fall back on.

Yeah I dont really have the experience to strip all the goodies off of it.myself. If I was scrapping it I would tow it to the yard and drop it off. So based off your estimate that 700 dollars is a pretty good deal?

They said "the most" they could give you is 700. Is that before or after the auction? Might just be a "come-on" thing they've learned to use which makes the offer sound appealing (at first). Just something to think about, might be best (if you suspect their offer) is list it at 7, and hope for 5, or possibly start even lower. Fact is, non running, you'll do well to get above scrap, but you might do better there still, seeing as pick-up/removal will then be up to them ; )

After reading that again i would be careful it seems when they said the Max is that means they are gonna come out and just nitpick it apart then offer you junk weight? i am intrigued by their choice in wording to see how that plays out

It's your car call em out and let em make you a cash offer.....Unless your desperate for money you have all the leverage..........I would entertain any and all offers but anything over $500 I would take it and run

It might be a communication break down on my part on the relay. I was under the impression that he was offering me $700 and when he said max that was don't expect to negotiate a higher price. I'm still thinking about listing it on CL for $800 for a few days and see if anyone bites then call this guy back. They were going to pay me my money then take it to the insurance auction. I got the impression that mechanic's were going to be bidding on these for parts cars etc.

timing might be a key issue there too. If the auction is once a month, and they just had it yesterday, he won't be nearly as interested, as if it was day after tomorrow, and he still had empty spots to fill.

Put it on craigslist for $700 and help someone in the local economy that wants to flip (repair) it to make some money for reselling. An auction house is going to charge you a fee and other bull****. They don't work for free.

Just as an update I sold them my car and got $600 for it. It did end up being an offer between $250-$700 as the max. I sent them two pictures of the outside and they came back with an offer of $450 and I told them that was way to low. I counter offered with $600 and they came back with $550. I didn't call him back for a day and then he came back with another $600 offer. I faxed him a copy of the title and my Drivers License and now I'm waiting on a call from them to schedule payment and pickup arrangements. All in all I guess I'm happy I got more than scrap for it and it was pretty easy to deal with them. And now I have enough to get the AC fixed on my other Accord.

I'll update this again once I see how the pickup and payment is handled.
