    I finally got a trailer

I have had 500 bucks squirreled away for some time now to get me a trailer for hauling this load of steel to the yard that is growing next to my house. Only thing is, any trailer for that price or less would in no way handle a load over 500 pounds or so. If I did find a decent one at $500, it was gone in an instant.

Then it happened. See, normally when I type in trailer in the Craig's list search I get hundreds of posts. This time I only got a small hand full per day on posts. I looked and I had typed trailor rather than trailer. There was my trailer. $300 4 x 8 with a drop gate and 2 foot walls. Much better than all of the ones I see with 10" walls. It shows it's age, but some paint, a new(used) tire, and a sheet of plywood for a new floor and I will have a good trailer for under $400 total.

I was talking to the guy and he is a scrapper. There was an almost new double baby stroller that he had there and he said he was scrapping it. I told him he could probably get more on Craig's list than that for it. He said he has had no luck with Craig's list as he has had that trailer up for sale for weeks and I was the first to ever call on it.

After I had paid him, and hooked the trailer up, I told him why no one called him(because no one saw the add because of the spelling). He banged his palm against his forehead and thanked me.

So, I finally have a trailer. Lights work, and I will soon be hauling steel and making my side yard look much nicer. I will also be able to store my steel on the trailer rather than pile it in the yard, and when it is full I will haul it in.

Nice score, parrothead. You can get some great deals on ebay by searching for misspellings too.

It will pay for itself many times over. Probably within a month.

    Congrats on the trailor...err trailer.

Speaking of misspellings, I find a lot of winches listed as wench. lol

15 on my local CL at the moment. So if you're in the market for a winch, that's another search option. If you're after a wench, then I can't help.

I bought my 4x8 drop gate trailer for $300 as well. It was originally used to haul motorcycles. I have no idea what it's rated load capacity is, but I have put 1300 lbs in it before and it was fine.

Also, about the plywood floor....Make sure the plywood isn't just set on top of the floor. Tie it or bolt it to something. I had plywood on mine, and as soon as I emptied my first load, hit 60 MPH and the plywood went a flyin! (Luckily there was no nearby traffic)

Good price on the trailer. Probably find you will need/want a bigger one soon. Check junk yards for wrecked pickups with a good frame, ya can bend the rails and make a trailer, and let em have the box, make a longer bed and get a larger trailer. Or keep the box on it and just use it as is. Already got lights, just need to put in a harness to hook up. Let it sit and fill it with something that takes awhile to accumulate, pre-sorted.

Good work! I'm starting my search for a trailer today. I might get a trailor instead! I took some metal from microwaves and other stuff to a yard yesterday in my car Just to get rid of it because I don't have space for it. It wasn't much and only paid £5.60 but if I had a good trailer I wouldn't have the space problem and could build a nice load up gradually.
