This cool socket wrench I just got has been helping me break loose stubborn rusty nuts. Even ones that a normal wrench stripped up a lot.
Very useful for just about anything! ...
I love taking these apart, they are fun. Most vcrs have a nice amount of brass in them
I take vcrs apart all the time. The yellow part is brass and i believe those patches are too. But i just throw the patchy part away.
I keep my smaller brass pieces like that in a little steel can. Just so there wont be little pieces scattering and getting lost when the scrapyard dumps out my brass it out to inspect.
A lot of them are made of zinc diecast. If they are not yellow or orange (red brass) when you take a saw or file to them then they are not brass. If you take a hammer to it and it cracks apart...
In my town they are only $2.50 and $2.60 at two diffrent yards. The good prices like $3.45 are about 3 hours away
I use a wire stripper called the WS200. i ordered it from the U.K. works well
you people and your lucky prices. IN my town (Bemidji MN) has never seen over $3 for copper. i dont think weve even seen over 60 centes for cans either. clean aluminum for 35 cents. 5 cents for...
thanks. so the very thin stuff if its by itself is counted as number 2?
If anyone else out there reads this i would still like to know if stranded wire (made up of very fine wire) can still be copper #1 if its in the guage range. I havnt recycled much so im not sure
GEt well fellow scrapper
I just got it a couple days ago. i love it! i stripped like a thousand feet of wire today!! look at my pic here oof what this thing did for me in just an hour! ...
I actually called the 2 recycling centers in my town yesterday. One is at 2.50 for all copper and the other is at 2.80 for #1 and 2.60 for #2.
My dad has a crazy amount. many 55 gallon barells overlowing of copper and cans, im super jealous. One of the barells is full of pipes taller than 6 feet another full of wires and the firepit has...
I just order this one about a week ago. All the way from europe though.
I actually found something that works amazingly well, makes it look like new again. 3M souring pads kinda like this:...
I have been saving mine for a couple months now, i am going to sell in late june. My dad works for waste management and has the key to the landfill so once a week i can go in and get what ever copper...
My town sucks for scrap prices most of the time. The highest i have EVER seen copper was $2.20 per pound. And they dont even pay more for #1 or bare bright. Its just one price for all copper,. Sucks....
china is buying a lot of it also
Yeah, i have a heavy construction hammer basically built for ripping things apart. Just bash around the lock if you have a hardcore hammer. But if i dont have the hammer with i do still try to take...
First of all, is copper #1 anywhere from size 16 up to 0? Iv heard that but just want to confirm it so i my seperation of wires can be made easier.
And my next question is, say i have a size 12 wire...
Thanks ill look into the sauce cleaning. Its worth it for me when i have something to save up for. I am a musician getting a $4000 synthesizer and for that to me every cent counts.
I have been trying to find ways to make copper shine again after taking it from the landfill or after burning tough insulation off the wires. Right now im just on the salt and vinegar trick, but that...
