Got a bucket of this growing from buying at sales looking for silver. Hear this is all nickel, copper, or a mix such as german silver or cuponickel. How best to talk the scrapyard to get best value...
Thanks Mick, after I hunted around a little I found the sticky.
Because the lead in batteries is paper thin with alot of space and quite bulky with the cases. In fact the lead in a passenger car battery minus the posts would melt into an ingot not much bigger...
Such as shred, whats the classes of copper, alluminum, brass, etc are? I want to be able to tear down my scrap better for higher payout. Right now I only know lead and zinc terms.
+1 here. My yard seperates brass because people will pay premium for brass cases. One day i was selling some copper bus bar when a guy came through with a bag full of shell cases. I asked and he said...

Just FYI all you cant melt battery lead like you can wheel weights. They have a massive amount of stored chemicals released as a gas that will kill you dead on the spot...

As said dont buy from yards, too easy to buy a 5 gallon for $20 or less (for 6 pack of brew) for your local tire shop. Dont bother with big chains, they have contracts. Small mom & pops usually scrap...
So silverplated light to non-magnetic (from a rare earth) should be sold as yellow or red brass?
