Hi I have a question maybe someone can help me with I have a bunch of 1/8 inch copper wire that I believe is very old that has what I think is a steel core?..It was either for phones or electricity on an old rail way route..Anyway I can't find out much about it except that I think it was called copperweld??...Anyone know of it's scrap value?...Thanks!

It might be "clad" wiring; meaning that it may be copper plated steel wire, and in that case you would be lucky to get shred price.

Sounds like it is for tig welding. Not a lot of any value unless its new.

It was up on poles and was cut down and left behind..I'm guessing because it's not worth much but I just wanted to be sure..But thanks for your reply!

Take your magnet to it and see what it sticks to, that'll be your answer.

There is wire called 6a and 8a...it is 2 strands of copper 1 steel...6a has larger copper smaller steel..8a larger steel smaller copper....There is also amaductor which is 2 steel 1 copper.
Also 6a returns 67% copper and 8a is 60% copper

might try looking for a place that does historical items or something like barbed wire on a board or something, where they put small pieces of different kinds on old barn wood for some kind of display

i went back and reread your post and see you were just looking for scrap price. Was thinking if it's old enough to have been used on an abandoned RR track it could have some little bit of historical significance somewhere
