    Florescent light balist

Hi Im getting old light balists from light fixtures in mobile offices trailers 4ft lights I think. The balist is little over 3lbs as is I have a total of a little over 75lbs in them I'm going to get plenty more should I take out the copper ? They are the black steel and tar kind only 3 or so are newer plastic ones. I saw something cool two of them were green outside what other colors do they come in?

Before taking them apart you need to verify they do no have PCBs. If they do, do not take them apart and verify your yard will take them. PCBs are carcinogens.

IHMO, it doesn't worth the work to break them apart, I cut the wires and I put them in the shred heap, but some yards have a specific price for them (a bit above shred). Also, take note that scrap yards won't take them if they don't have No PCB written on the label.
NEW TO SCRAPPING? READ THIS: Build up your horde of magnetic and non-magnetic metals in two piles until you have a better understanding of the business. Magnetic material has low value and is mostly always steel / shred / short iron. Read old threads about non-magnetic metals and ewaste (and how to sort them), but don't forget that they generally have absolutely no tolerance for contamination (screw / iron / foreign material).

My yard takes them as sealed units. Haven't been able to go for a long time working ot and there closed by the time I get home so I'm sitting on 80lbs of bb to. Plus some then 12awg stranded 7lbs and other things.

Unfortunately, the yards around me will not take them, even if they have no PCB's. I tried taking one apart, and they are definitely NOT worth the effort.
