    flat screen tvs

On occassion I find normal tv's at my apartment complex and thats good and easy I know what to get excited about: how much copper there is and where to find it. However today I found a flat screen and somebody already pulled the cord. Is there anything inside that I should go crazy about? I'm sorry if this is a question that's been answered 1,000 times. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure there's some kind of aluminum casing behind the screen. My advice would be to tear it apart and let us know how it goes

Newer flat screens have super thin glass, almost looks plastic and aluminum heat shields, some big, some not. Older FS have more metal and are thicker but the glass is glued to an awesome sheet of stainless.....I havent broke the glass yet to see if it separates from the stainless panel. Projection Screen TVs have the most aluminum and copper. Plus wire, very cool lenses and speakers and all kinds of goodies.........

They were building a Buffalo Wild Wings near my house and installed 54 flat screen TVs. They hung all of them from the ceiling and did not use the bases so I got a bunch of them out of the boxes. Each base had about 2 lbs of aluminum castings in the bottom. On a whim, I looked on ebay and saw that people were selling these for about $40 each so I put mine up there and in two weeks I had sold $812 worth of them.

Sometimes the money isn't in the metal eh?

I posted that to let you know that you can remove the base and sell it for at least $25 on ebay if it's in decent shape. I also found a flat screen with a busted screen dumped in the trash behind Best Buy and grabbed it thinking I'd fix it. It wasn't worth it but the TV shop I called told me that he'd give me $25 for it for parts. I hope that deal's good after I take the base off, that makes $50 for nothing.

I sell all of my flat panel LCDs whole.....The refiner that I deal with buys them for a flat rate...We have sold a few of them on eBay for parts and they sell well if you have the right ones...Some of the smaller ones aren't worth much but those I can sell easily to the refiner....

You can just sell them as-is for parts on eBay? Just put up the ad, box it up, and ship it out? Simple as that? I'm guessing by "the right ones", you mean big ones?

As long as you disclose the condition of what your selling, you can sell just about anything you want. I always say in my adds "Look at the pictures closely, item is used, as is, if it works or not and no returns." Never had a problem or a complaint.

We write down the make and model and size of the LCDs and then check them against other eBay listings....Our general rule is to sell something for at least $20.

Full disclosure is certainly the best way to go. And yes, the bigger the monitor the more they are worth in most cases. The touch screen LCDs generally command a higher price.
