    Radiator ok to scrap?

Hi y'all, Ian here this is my first post but I'm glad I finally found a scrapper forum. I've been getting into scrapping lately but I'm still a noob so I need y'all's experience and expertise. Ok so I'm havin some beers with a friend last night and we're talking about scrapping and he tells me he's got a radiator just taking up space if I wanted it. Apparently his brother brought it to his house and just left it and he wanted it outta his garage so I took it off his hands. It's a monstrous thing, looks like it came off one of those big industrial ac units you would see on the roof of a building. I know that whenever I go sell copper brass or aluminum they take my id. Now I assume that's so that they can track down who they bought from if they end up with stolen metal? I have no idea where the guy got this radiator but it definitely looks industrial size. Do y'all think this thing is ok to scrap or might it possibly come back to bite me in the ass? The last thing I want is to get in trouble with the law over some scrap aluminum. What would y'all do in my position?

Is it Flat and have Plastic on the ends or Steel? (like a vehicle)
    OR
Is it in a "C" Shape (A/C Condensing Unit?)

Vehicle- Cut off any plastic or steel ends
Condensing Unit- Snip Copper Line that is exposed- YES some states will require you have proof that a licensed HVAC contractor pulled the unit and it was given to whomever. Some states will not allow you to turn it in at all unless you are HVAC licensed. Best to call your yard and ask!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

Texas you will have to have extra documentation, it is a requirement that started September of 2011. Below is an excerpt:

SHERMAN, TX–There’s a new Texas law to crack down on Copper theft. Lawmakers passed it to protect the property of homeowners and utility companies.

Customers are now required to provide documentation when bringing A/C units or other copper materials to a scrap yard.

Homeowners must show a proof of purchase or other paperwork to prove that a central heating or air conditioning unit is theirs.

License air-conditioning professionals are also authorized to recycle copper.

“The whole purpose of this law is to curb theft and to try to eliminate some of that, which we feel is a good thing,” James Reed said, 82 Metal Recyclers manager “Obviously, we don’t want to buy anything that’s stolen. Hopefully this helps law enforcement crack down on some of these people who have been taking this air conditioners and putting people out of pocket–or their insurance company–or what have you”

Metal recyclers must keep an item for 72 hours to five days from the date of purchase. Texas Senate Bill 694 has been in effect since September 1st.

Is that all of Texas? I take in copper to my local yard pretty regularly as well as a few window units, they've never said anything about it other than getting my id etc. Or is it referring specifically to central units and their copper?

I think it is more geared towards the central a/c units. I have taken coolers from the window units to one of my yards, and other than getting my license number and a photo, I do not have a problem. I do have a cooler from central unit that I am hanging on to that a guy asked me to pick up until I can figure out what to do with it. I am planning on getting my license to evac, and I am hoping that will suffice.

Alright that make sense. I guess that's why the guy just ditched it in the garage instead of scrapping it himself eh? Just spitballing here, I noticed there's copper line running all through it (correct?) say I rip the whole **** thing apart and just take in the copper? Think it'd fly? Of course it'd be a hell of a lot of tedious work but from what y'all have said it sounds like there ain't gonna be much else I can do with it. Unless someone has a bright idea? It takes up a lot of space and it stinks of freon so the sooner I can get rid of it the better
