    Buying electric motors/compressors

Hey guys . I know I could prob answer this myself but have you guys have any expierence with this. Are you able to buy motors and compressors from scrap yards. My plan was to break them Down for copper. Another one will HVAC companies give you there old compressors or will you have to offer them a fair price?

I've never had any luck trying to buy compressors or motors from scrap yards. Most HVAC service companies along with HVAC supply companies will sell bad compressors. I've had good luck buying from both of them.

you can ask the yards in your area, i know i have asked the yards near me about whole computers, they said no or the ole we will get back with you.
one thing that i did start doing was chasing down the local scrappers as the went throu my neighborhood, stopped a couple asked them if they ever got computers and offered to buy them from them. one of the guys now sells me all of his computers that he picks up. i was just over at his house last week and he was tossing a compressor in the trailer with his shred, i told him that the yard he goes to buys those for $.20 a pound.
he simply didnt know that they paid more.

Freonjoe I'm guessing you cut those compressors open that you bought?

I have a neighbor who scraps and he sells me his motors at the price that the yard buys them. But he's nice to me I wouldn't expect the same from other scrapers. I would expect to be able to buy from other scrapers at a little over the yard price. Once you make contact with other scrapers then you will have possible suppliers of computers and other ewaste. I would make sure you have some cards in your pocket and have them ready to hand out. Mike.
