List it for parts, possible non-working, someone may snag it.

I'm in Montreal, Canada. Here the yard takes 100lbs off, when there's alot of glass. I believe that would be the case with the tanning bed. Really not sure if it's worth it, too much work to remove the glass and tubes. Try to sell it as it...

I haven't seen any tanning beds at the scrap yard, but I know mine does not like things with a lot of glass. In this case, I think you would be better off to try and sell it outright. Less work and possible a lot more money. Good luck!

Yeah I would strip it down all the way and just recycle the plastic for free and take all the metal to the scrap yard.

i had the pleasure of finding a tanning bed in my travels in va Beach! we broke it down and found a bunch of inch and a half by six inch long metal heat sinks all through it! we had some other metal with it that day but my partner and i had just the back of my f150 loaded with scrap and we left the yard with 142 bucks! it did have s ton of screws in it which we gladly scrapped as well!

maria, if you are seriously interested in scrap metal, you may want to go to the introduction section and read the "sticky" there.

"She" isn't at all interested. Both her posts have spam dvd links.

I noticed the links, but I thought she just put it there cause she liked 'em. What constitutes a spam link....does it mean you'll get a virus if you click on it ?

Not always a virus Dee, but it could be adware or spyware. It might just be they were trying to sell their DVD's. At any rate, be careful what you click on, I picked up adware off a VW site awhile back. I mean c'mon, how low can you get to mess with a VW site...lol

Dee, I could be wrong, but any time someone joins and the 1st post they make is gibberish along with a link to something irrelevant to the forum, I consider it spam.

I just scored an all metal one last night, along with a small compressor, canon printer/fax/etc, transformers, UPSs, and random other bits. The outside is all white metal and the reflective interior is sheet Al (score!). Got it from a classified reply. Could only fit the top and all the little stuff yesterday, have to go back this evening with help to get the bottom.

Well, I got it all home, stripped it down, and brought to the yard today. I didn't have room for the transformers (and have microwaves to tear down) and there was some Al extrusion, but I think everything else was turned in.

    Totals
    550 lbs steel x .095/lb = 52.25
    21 lbs sheet Al x .50/lb = 20.50
    22 lbs wire x .80/lb = 17.60

I also got 2 UPS and an old compressor at the same pick up. Left the yard earlier with, and I thought this was just perfect, exactly $100.00. Not a penny over or under, ticket actually reads "$100.00"

Can't wait to bring in the transformers, Al, and the printer/fax. Scored 3 more printers on the weekend from neighbour and curbco.

I have scrapped two tanning beds, both were different from each other.

1 was made up of Ali extrusion thruout, they all slid into each other to form the actual bed.
Big sheets of plastic, heaps of thin Ali strips as reflectors, weigh almost nothing.
There was a square of red glass and halogen bulb in one for the face area.
The frames Steel, solidish, heavy duty hinges.
There's heaps of solid core wire for the neon bulbs and a transformer for each one, and Ali heatsinks.
The transformers have 100gms of Copper in each one. Easyish to breakdown once you get the hang of it.
The iron core turns into thousands of peices of shred. Inside certain transformers, inside theres little 5/8th zquare plates like tiles, these may be able to be sold to crafters to turn into tiles as art.

Worth the breakdown, getting rid of the bulbs, unless selling them, may be a hassle
