I work at a town recycling yard. They did handle it wrong but at the same time, people complain about taxes and every little bit of income the town can get helps the tax rate.

my town has 4 scrap yards in a 15 mile radius and we still get people bringing in steel, copper, and aluminum because they know that it helps the tax rate.

What a bunch of crap, the scrap metal the town collects does nothing to lower any taxes, just more moneys to blow. Besides that I bet what they do collect don't even pay for all the city employees wages that work there. Just a bunch of greedy polictians trying to bilk every last dime out of us.

Here is mine. Sec. 15-10.3. Scavenging prohibited.
No person shall scavenge or otherwise disturb solid waste placed out for collection by a collection agency. Once
placed out for collection solid waste becomes the property of the collection agency.

If we didnt get any metal at my place that would mean roughly $40000 more the tax payers would have to pay. That is for a town with a pop of 6500. Sure that is not a lot but every little but counts right.

Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing.

My city basically shut me down because nothing can be visible from the alley, even in the trailor on MY pirvate property. I can't pay bills as it is let alone come up with a grand for a fence. Tyranny!!! It's time we take our country back!

$40,000 income to any government operated businessdosn't necessarly convert to profit. and perticularly to a reduction of taxes. if this is truely profit and truly reduces taxes, two calls need to be made imediatly. the first to Washington to tell them how to do it. qand the second to the Guiness book of world records.

and that is aside from the huge problem I have with the government compeeting with its citizens but that is what I see as the future as restrictions (regulations ) get more and more restrictive.

Last month my Township passed an ordinance...$200 fine for anyone picking up Metal. I know somebody that got stopped and the cop told him you're not allowed to pick up anything with a recyclable monetary value. So the cop told them that he could pick up wood furniture because there is no recycle value on it. So now they pick up wood furniture and restore it. The only reason they really got stopped was because his boss had a bad inspection sticker.

I know out here on Long Island in some of the incorporated villages there's probably some good stuff that people get rid of (alot of well off yuppies in many of those villages), but since many of them have their own set of funky rules/laws and their own police force, I stay away simply because I don't want to find out the hard way that there's some village ordinance against garbage picking and then I get fined and possibly have my truck impounded...

We truly are on the outskirts of full on Stalin loving Russia, funny thing is the govt will spend 5 times more than the metal collected and than wonder why the cities and townships are going broke. Let good ole greedy capitalist like tater haul and they get more taxes on everything Id use to do it, sounds like a win win to me

Sounds like you need to learn to eat turnips and drink brewsky, comrad. Why do we allow ourselves to be subjected to this tyranny? Its time we start getting involved with town councel meetings and get involved. The Republic is on life support.

Scavenging is not specifically prohibited here, but there are ordinances about junk in yards and commercial vehicles. Enforcing them might unemploy the whole city. Most of my neighbors wear heavy duty bootstraps.
