Lightbulb Hey i need some pictures of the types of metal.

im real new to this. if you have any up close pictures of metal or a location where i can find them

if you taken apart a fan motor if you can take pictures of the materials your keeping to scrap with the name that will be very help full.
cause i taken apart 5 fan motors but i only keeped the copper and trashed the rest.
im lost in lets say all the different types of metal worth keeping.

im going to have to talk with people buying the scrap but they probley dont have pictures or would they be able to give them to me? like how do they train people to buy the metals

but i would like to see some pictures with some names please.

I think he is being honest, though going about things the wrong way. I used that website when I was first learning, they had lots of good pictures and to a noob like I was then it was very helpful. Although I agree that people showing up basically asking for information handouts can be frustrating doing things like telling someone to "just f***ing google it* is not productive and is not the way to foster a welcoming environment in a growing forum like this one.

Hi - Really sorry that you got this sort of reaction. I, like you, thought this should be a forum for sharing, for new people to ask questions and learn the trade. I've run into the same negativity as you. But, I've also run into some really good and helpful folks as well. Sorry you had to meet the "rough" ones first. Don't let it get you down

    Welcome to the forum Sars.

Firstly this is a scrap metal forum and we do like to help people get started scrapping and help each other.
But the way you just join up and start asking for things is like asking for someone to hold your hand and walk you through the learning process.
It has taken a lot of blood sweat and tears to learn all the ins and outs of scrapping.

We have worked hard over the years with no help so when someone just starts asking for favors it sets people off!
You join with no introduction and start with asking for a favor. Let me put down dinner and go out in my shop right now and snap off some pictures for you! Or you could take the time to look at what we have spent a lot of time doing and search for yourself for the pictures.

We are not your search engine, this is why the forum has a search feature. What are we to repost a picture every time someone else joins?

I am not sure what you expect to find in the fan but it not like it's a VCR or anything.

I was hopefully trying to start a thread with mainly pictures so noobs like me won't be asking the same question over and over. If 30 new people asked what kind of metal this is then one you you people could show a link to this topic. And hopefully be done with it.

I'm not sure how my question is stupid... I don't now what school you went to to learn everythig you needed to know about scraping. all I know is you ask question if your stuck. But you all must think I haven't even looked up other sites and looked at YouTube videos but I have and I still needed help.

Maybe if I would had introduce my self in the right section. But I don't think it would had help in what I I'm looking for.
Our maybe I should had posted on 2 year old topic and asked for pictures... But then that might have been consider spam or "stupid" cause I posted on a 2 year old topic.

Well I did learn this forum isn't dead so that's good.

Google search can get you most of your answers, and many of them will lead right back to here.

Below are a few image searches that took me less than a minute.

We are all for helping people, but when people come on here and immediately ask the simple questions it kinda rubs people the wrong way. Seriously, look thru the forum, you will learn so much, if you honestly look for your question and cannot find the answer then by all means ask, we love new questions.

sry to be so rude but some times ther is a need for a big bucket of cold water to wake some people up. there is already three entire sections dedicated to your very questions. E recycling, where to find scrap metal, and breaking down scrap. if you had taken time to read the forum headers you would not have had to ask. that is the whole point of the forum.

have I ever asked a stupid question here, yes I have. but never one whos answer was as obvious and easy to find as some that get asked.

where do I find metal ?

where do I find large ammounts of copper whire ?

and surprisingly those questions have been answered too.

use the search buttion, stickys, and headers please, then if you cant find it ask. and we ,including me, will be more then glad to answer.

when you take a trip, you dont go to the airport and ask a pilot how to fly the plane, or a hospital and ask a heart surgion how to swap out a heart.

this is a proffesion just like those, and, disrespect ,ment or not, just p*sses me off, sry.

I'm not asking anyone to help me take apart anything or making fun of what we are doing or forceing anyone to go take pictures I just wanted one place to find pictures.
if you go to any car web site you find one topic or a page decated to only certion types of cars.
and I notice this forum doesn't have one or does it?

so since this forum isn't a place for noobs asking question. you all tell me when should I ask a question so I don't keep pissing off the whole forum just by requesting simple pictures.

I think the title and the first post thru people off of what you intended this thread to accomplish. That and being new to the site thru some of the regulars into a frizzy.

Maybe we can start over, with a title that will work with the search feature and some pictures in the first post. Then people can add to that post and it can grow. I feel your idea is a good one, it was just lost in communication.

Just my 2cents on the subject.

Go to your local yard. Ask to walk around. Sit back and see how they seperate materials and what type of materials are there. Im sure somone at your local yard can help you more than some internet weirdos like ourselves.

This forum is growing and evolving. Maybe we can channel this energy into making things easier to find somehow. I know it gets frustrating with people asking the same questions again and again, but this was actually a question asking for something that we do not have and maybe should.

I will take this opportunity to ask all of the regular members here to think about what we can do to make this a better and more convenient knowledge database. I will reference the computer parts identification thread put together by parttimescrapper that was a big hit. It can be found here. http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/showt...identification I would love to see more of these well thought out and documented threads here.

So, if we channel the energy towards the greater good, we may end up with less noobie questions down the road. I know that I have questions here and there, and it can be a pain to find the thread that I remember because of trying to get the key words just right to bring that thread up again.

Hobo posted a good link, but wouldn't it be great if we could point people to our own thread rather than having to lead them away from our great forum?

I have a few ideas for some nice detailed and informative threads and I FINALLY found my camera card and reader just today and will get a few things going.
