    Question about selling H.D.'s

Just a quick question, about how much for shipping for an average H.D.? Right now I'm doing some 40's and 80's. I was going to set a price with free shipping and was just needing an estimate on how much to allow for. I buy my postage online. I could pull out the scale but this time of nite I'm just too lazy,,,

$5 max for the shipping itself. They fit in a small flat rate box real nice. They also fit in the padded flat rate envelope for $4.95. With all the free bubble wrap and stuff you can get off craigslist and the boxes and stuff you can get from post office website free shipped to your door.

Do you also want delivery confirmation if you ship USPS? Insurance? These might add a couple of bucks

Also, two of my 4 SATA drives I sold recently on eBay were DOA. Reasons might be that I was shipping in padded envelopes without using anti-static bags, although it is also entirely possible that the drives were just old and would have died from handling even if I used cardboard and anti-static. But still if I sell any in future, I'll pack better.

    Just my $0.02

It dont take much if they get bounced around in the truck or dropped to kill them. Want a fine example? Fire up a old pc. Whack it hard with ya hand...now the drive is dead. Or drop it on the floor...dead now. They cant withstand too much force to kill them. Also be leery of the asshats on ebay who will return their old drive claiming yours is doa. Write down or photgraph serial number of drive before shipment to protect yourself.

If you buy your postage thru Ebay or the USPS online, Delivery Confirmation is often included...example: Priority small flat rate box is about $5 thru Ebay with Delivery Confirmation Included, if you walked into the post office it would run you about $5.80ish. As far as insurance I wouldn't even bother unless it's a big ticket item...even with insurance it's tough to get money back from the USPS if something breaks or gets lost.

I would do US flat rate box. Its $6.80 with $50 insurance. In the ad place the Hard drvie SN number so if they send you another drive back if they do a ebay claim on you (happens every now and then) and send you there dead drive..you can take action on them.
