    Grades of Aluminum

How common is it for a yard not to pay differently on different grades of Aluminum? They say that they will only pay different prices on different grades if I was a factory or machine shop bringing it in direct.

Also, how many different categories are you breaking your aluminum down into? I get a lot of cast, but I also get a lot of machined extrusions (usually anodized). I've separated the stuff before, but always seem to get paid the same regardless.

I used to sort it, but when I realized they were all the same price anyhow, I brought in a mixed bucket...Guess what? They paid me the same price...Imagine that...Less sorting is more progression.

You know its strange. It all pays the same here also. Except for dirty alum. But on the ticket it's all itemized. Wonder why they do that?

they sell it all sorted and by grades...i know many scrap yards that tried to do that to my scrapper buddy until he said what the hell is going on and told them he sorted the stuff he wanted sorted prices...and they gave it to him,....the average guy on the street doesnt know aluminum has so many different types and they usually see aluminum and dont ask questions...they make their money by upgrading stuff you sell them...to maximize profits..
