I would guess that the company that owned it doesn't want to bother with it as DVD's are about obsolete now. CD's still have some value.

As for a angle grinder, that's more work and noise then a drill with a good bit.

As for weight without the discs. I would guess that's it's about the same as a pop machine or less.

As for electronics. They have scanners and micro motors that are very saleable.

Any marquees that can be removed are also saleable. That's the RED BOX logos. People want them for their rec rooms and man caves.

Usually ... the owners of different vending machines rent space within a store or just outside the storefront. It's possible that the owner of the redbox machine didn't pay their rent. It might even be abandoned property. The thing is that the laws vary from state to state. I don't want to see it blow back on NinjaGal.

It's probably fine ..... but it's best to cover your bases when legal ownership is in question.

As for the drilling .... i did see it done that way on youtube. I just don't like using those drills. They're slow and constantly breaking. It's a pita when they break off inside the hole. That's something you can't drill out because it's so hard.

Was drilling out a rusted in friction pin yesterday and the darn drill bit broke off inside. GRRRRR ... i hate that. What a time waster.

Look at how the barrel locks install on the inside sometime. Cut a square with the ankle grinder and the whole thing pops out.

Hole saw would quicker and easier though. I've got everything from 1/2" to 4 1/2" in my toolbox. Having the right tools and knowing how to use them makes quick work of it. Turn-n-burn. Bang the job out and get on to the next thing on the list.

Scanners, micro motors, and marquees ? More time wasted trying to find a buyer in a small niche market. That could drag on for years. That's a good job for CD.

It's just different worlds is all. They're pretty hardcore about the work ethic around heeyah. It's part of our culture. It's either keep up or get out of the way.

I was talking with a young fulla a couple of years ago. He works as a stern man on a lobster fishing boat. He had started work at 4:00 am that morning and didn't get back on shore till 6:00 pm that evening. I remarked that it was a long work day for him and that he must be tired. He said he was but that his was a good job. He said that he was only 21 and never finished high school but was making over 100 k. per year.

The clam diggers do pretty well too. They work a tide .... usually 3 hours or so .... and make $ 300.00. They have the rest of the day to themselves to do with as they please.

Anyhow .... it's all about the work and the expectations of others for you to do your job quickly & efficiently. It makes you an expedient person.

I did the hard work and long hours many years ago so that I can take it easy in my older age.

When putting in long hours years ago I would think about the day when I could take it easy when I felt like it.

Some times I work a little

Some days I work a lot

Some days I sleep a little

Some days I sleep a lot

and in the end it all evens out.

    Works for me.

I hear ya bro. Ain't none of us getting any younger. I suppose i could retire if i wanted but i like work. Still ... it's not like when i was younger. Nine hours a day is about my limit now. Not getting much done on my days off from from my regular job now. Just taking the time to get rested up and have a little fun.

The main thing about here is that i try to offer my best advise to the younger hands. Scrapping is hard work.

Jeez ... one of my scrapping friends is 87 years old and still at it. A lot of people don't have much respect for the man because he was in prison when he was younger. ( A sex offender.) Not me. He regrets his past and the bad things he did. I respect his work ethic.

Sounds like a good plan. I just recently retired and have been scrapping out stuff I collected for years . Stockpiled in case I ever needed the money but fortunately I never did. I collected it so I'm scrapping it . Tons of good scrapable material. I also do the ebay thing. I try to keep it a hobby and not a business, so I may scrap stuff that others may not take the time to do so .

If you got the room, just go get it while the getting is good and then figure out what you want to do with it .

I had the getting it while the getting was good idea in mind. I've had my place going on 39 years and I piled up quite a collection. Most of the value is in my hobby collections, but there is plenty of value in the piles of post consumer goods around the yard. The piles of microwaves still have the cords on them as do most other items with cords. There are many old computers that are complete as well as boxes of computer parts and such.

I was in one of the bigger towns near me the other day and stopped at a few yard sales. Hauled home a car load of electrical and electronic items as well as many cords and hardware. Bought a box of new data cable that's 4 pair with about 800 feet or more of the wire in it for $2.00. I won't scrap that as it's still usable.

I'm always on the look out for copper fittings, wire and other interesting hardware, have quite the collection of that stuff after all the years of hauling it home.

I have got rid of some of the copper pipe and wire over the years, as well as the cats and rads out of most of the vehicles and spent the money I got on my hobby collections.

I've sold off a few of the vehicles that were in my way, but still have about 80 or so at last count. Had over 100 vehicles here years back.

I'm in no great rush to scrap what's here as I have no reason to, but I do enjoy taking things apart now and then.

I see it as I'm 100% debt free and in better health then most that are my age.

I remember years back after I got out of the military I got a job building silos and the pay was GREAT. But anywho, I met a man that did handy work for the company I worked for that was in his 70's and still in good shape. I asked him what his secret was and he told me that staying busy doing what you enjoy and avoiding things that caused you stress.

That's what I've done and still do and hope to do till the day I die.

People will ask me what will happen to all that I have when I die and I tell them I won't care.

Sounds a lot like me in many regards. I don't have that many cars and am selling off a few 1965 and 1966 barracudas that I collected.
I have piles of scrap that I'm cleaning on that collected the past 30 years or so. I also have a large collection of clean scrap.
I'm retired now so I can sit on my milk crate ,listen to the radio and take as much time as I need to scrap something out. I've been doing it a long time so I pretty well know what to do and what not to do , but always looking for easier ,faster ways of doing stuff .

I have been outside working on laundry that I do about twice a year, once in the spring and then in the fall. I use rain water and do it by hand the old fashioned way. I've also been working on a stand that holds the middle of my drying line in the air as the line sags when full. The bottom of the stand has rusted through and the chip board it was filled with has rotted away so the tin covering on the stand was bent and rusting and full of holes. It's a old store display that I've been using for MANY years. I have it all ready for the replacement parts that I'm using for the base. Some old tubular TV stand that I found out in the woods that's made of the right size for my repair. Just have to find the right sized bolts and nuts and get a drill and bits out.

I came in to bid on a eBay auction that I won for less then my max bid. I wasn't sure I would win as there were 6 others bidding on it.

So I checked in here and figured I would relax out of the sun for a bit.

I greatly enjoy the way that I live as it's far beyond my childhood dreams.

Back outside I go, or I should say the 3 of us,

    Me, Myself and I...

I helped my dad do some scrapping when I was a kid so I guess I'm practicing my childhood dream. I collected the copper when it was 40 cents a pound, aluminum was 7 cents and die cast was 4 . A lot harder to come by back then even though we had lots of old cars. Use to have to burn them before the yard would take them. We would get 3 cars on a load and haul around Christmas time, Scrap went up to 20 dollars a ton from 10 around Christmas time . A hundred dollars was nice back then.

I got the stand finished and it came out quite nice. The base has a bigger footprint then before and it's nice and sturdy.

I started scrapping when I was about 5 years old. I would pull my wagon down the alley ways in Minneapolis. I would look for things that had copper and things I could trade or sell. Did alright as the scrap yards were just a few blocks away from me. The copper price was about .30 a pound, (I looked it up as my memory of what copper was back then is far in the back of my mind). But back then you could buy a lot with .30 cents.

When I first saw a TV set I was about 3 or 4. I was more interested in what's inside then the programing. I didn't start watching TV until I was 20 and that was so I could see what was making people act the way that they did. These days I only watch recorded media. Haven't watched so called TV in many many years.

I have learned that I've never had any real peers as I'm wired a lot differently then the normal and unnormal folks. I'm a anomaly simply put.

The things I want to talk about are not very popular in a world that loves it's fantasy and fictions far more then reality and truth. But I'm comfortable with that as it's the way things are.

I have no religion. Follow no sports and see politics in much the same way as religion or sports. I don't require a list to follow as I make my own lists.

I'm much the same today as I was over 60 years ago. Just have a grey beard and I'm larger in size.

I dunno ... i don't think you can tell much about people from watching tv. You would come away with the wrong idea because TV is a fiction ... for the most part. Even reality tv is staged and carefully edited to make it more interesting.

Real life is pretty mundane for the most part. Birth, school, work, death. People come home from a hard day's work and put on the TV for a few hours for a little bit of entertainment as an escape from their ordinary lives.

They get up the next morning and do it all over again. Day after day. Week after week. Month after month. Year after year.

Fifty years pass. They look back and say to themselves : Where did the time go ?

A relative few who fully embraced the real world ...and lived life to the fullest ... look back and say to themselves : It's been one helluva ride.

Whew boy .... you don't want to say that too loud in this day and age. The outside world has changed a lot since you were a child.

Stop and think about it. You get an old car sitting out in the back 40 .... it's slowly rusting out over time. Brake lines. Coolant hoses. Oil lines. Old gas tanks. Transmission fluid lines. They all fail at some point and dump all these toxic fluids on the ground underneath the vehicle.

I get it ... you don't care ... you only think about yourself. You will eventually die and then it will eventually be someone else's problem to deal with.

Maybe .... but 80 cars is an awful lot. An illegal junkyard that size is big enough to be seen from space. Every part of the U.S. has been photographed from above. All you have to do is go on Google maps and your property is right there if you don't believe me.

Trust me ... you don't want the state or federal governments looking your way.

Jeez ... we're looking at at least a couple of million dollars in cleanup costs where i work. "The powers that be" let the problem run for 35 years and now it's come time to pay the piper.

I can understand why you would say that I can't learn anything about people watching TV. YOU and most others have NO idea HOW the brainwashing works. Monkey see, monkey do, simply put. Why do you think it's called programing? And what about the commercial came before the entertainment.

I have learned plenty from watching what the MA$$E$ are programed by. I watch the "programing" very differently then most. I can see what they are pushing and the ideas they are putting in peoples minds.

WHY do people require a ESCAPE? Just WHAT are they trying to escape from? I know VERY well just what is going on. People are trying to escape from THEMSELVES as they don't have a very good understanding of just what they are all about.

We all live in our own little worlds and overall, the worlds don't compliment each other.

You are just jealous that my little world is a happy little world as I created it in my own image.

You and most others haven't a clue to what the so called REAL world is about.

Your love of fantasy and fiction is what interests you most, not truth and reality.

You must remember that words and their vague meanings were made up by people. The words to clearly express myself don't exist as they would get in the way of PROGRE$$ and peoples love/lust for their fantasy and fictions.

Your superstitions and rituals get in the way of a clear view and understanding.

I've seen the satellite pictures of my place. I also had run ins with the EPA and law in the past, but they learned that it was best to leave me alone. I had them out testing the water and they found nothing wrong. I don't have many vehicle leaks of fluids and I do my best to keep the yard in good condition. It's a critters paradise as I have plenty of wild life living in the yard.

The authorities are VERY aware of me and my place. I studied the laws well enough to keep them out of my little world. Been here almost 40 years now and it's been a adventure that suits me just fine and dandy.

You are just unhappy that you have to play make believe and pretend to try and make your little world seem right.

You are letting your programing get in your way.

Figured I would add this little tidbit of information that you may not be aware of.

Did you know what they do with the dirt they dig up from old fuel stations where the fuel leaked from the tanks for many years?

    They spread it on farmland.

I get what you are saying about programming in the media. I notice it as well. It's a hard call. I don't think it's all bad. Some of those calling the shots have a vision of a better world. A place where people treat one another with a little more kindness and dignity. I'm hard put to disagree with that noble goal.

Okay ... the escapism of entertainment. People take a break from the stress of everyday life in all different kinds of ways. Some watch TV. Some people drink beer. Some people smoke pot. There are all different kinds of ways of shifting the assemblage point of one's perception.

That ... ohh you will never understand me thing you do ? I'm special. I'm superior. There are no words to describe me. I'll just give it a * giggles* and leave it at that.

Well ... there's the internal reality. That's what's going on inside your head.

Then ... there's the external reality. That's the reality of the world around you.

It's best if the two are relatively in synch with one another. That way you are fully functional. It seems like being out there in the real world everyday really doesn't work for you. You don't function very well out there. You've said so yourself on many occasions.

I'm not surprised that you have had run in's with the law and the EPA. Kinda thought that might be the case.
