So will a magnet stick to it? because if not you may have aluminum wire, or some kind of coating on it.

Are you talking about coaxial cable?

    Or A/V cables?

I'd strip coax and scrap AV as is.

Unless you're not talking about either of this kind of wire.

Coax has a lot of crap in it. See if they take it as is. No, you will not get extra because it has a copper coating. That is negligible.

Besides the white spacer in there, there is usually a thin plastic film over the center conducter and is sometimes vulcanized right on to it. We had to use plastic scrapers to get that off. It took a few seconds every time and we were only cleaning a half inch of it.

If you have the type that comes clean with just a swipe of the knife, you are still talking aluminum unless you have some pretty old cable.

most yards in new york will not even pay for that stuff.

some have a regular trash dumpster for you to dump it in for free, others tell you not to leave it on premesis / take it with you when you leave

If there was some way to get it up here - I just got a price sheet today. Coax cable is .12/lb.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Well there are different types of coaxial cable. The is copper clad which is just copper coated wire and isnt worth anything. Also there is solid copper wire also that the center wire is pure copper.

mick, that episode of seinfeld where they try to bring the cans from ny to mi for the 10cent vs. 5cent bottle deposit comes to mind, haha...

since noone takes it around here i have literally seen dumpsters full more times then i can count, the stuff is everywhere and going nowhere...

hopefully local yards start taking it soon... i'd take any price per pound as i always seen a ton of it everywhere...

coax cable is copper clad steel. Coax is crap! Throw it in the steel pile and quit wasting your time!

My yard takes it. As long as it's mixed in with other stuff, they don't really care. You just have to hide it a little. They don't go through my buckets and check each individual wire. They just throw it on the scale and pay me insulated wire price for it. Same thing with aluminum wire.

It's best you put the magnet to your cables because I've noticed that some are magnetic while others aren't. Could they be older?

My yard takes it, .25 a pound. Be careful with the coax cable, some of them are steel.
