604 stainless steel vs iconel are they the same

Is 604 stainless steel always called iconel.

There are about 2 dozen flavors of Inconel. Inco 604 is 74% nickel and 16% chrome

Is inconel and stainless the same. My clients says it 604 stainless but I cant find much info on it.

Inconel is a family of austenitic nickel-chromium-based superalloys. The name is a trademark of Special Metals Corporation. From Wikipedia. All baseball caps are hats but not all hats are base ball caps. Substitute Inconel for baseball caps and stainless for hats and I think you get your answer. Maybe... I think.. I guess... I'm not that knowledgeable on this stuff.

Inco 604 is 74% nickel and 16% chrome. So no, they are not the same thing because "stainless" has significantly less nickel. Inconel is a trademarked name for different particular alloys just like Monel and Hastalloy are as well.
