cat 6 is worth to sell id make jumpers sell on ebay i bought kit from there too.

True story^ I just can't bring myself to keep a warehouse full of things I might sell when I set my margins for scrap recovery. Just my opinion, but I see a lot of folks here that don't mind sitting on things...

my first small load is 600 lbs of it if you want to make jumpers for ebay no prob its for sale. along with another 3 or 4000 lbs.over the next year or so.

I don't know how you tell them apart? There's cat 4, cat 5, cat 6, and E,F,G, hek, how many kinds are there and how do you tell them apart

I think it has to do with the number of wires/connections. Im just trying to get an idea of % of copper. so I have a bargaining point.
I have it all packed in a gaylord ready to ship, but circumstances beyond my control are going to make me sell it to a local yard. I don't want to get screwed any more then necessary.

I'm with Bear on this one, what does "cat6" mean. Why don't you call several diffrant yards and sell to the one that pays the most. Why are you woried about getting ripped off?

my truck broke down. have to haul in small loads, only 2 other yards becides me. they know me and will rip me if they can. they are ewaste deficiant in knowledge. and are afraid of it. they try to buy it as "com" wire at .30 it is worth 3 or 4 times that.

Category 3 is phone wire and has 2 twisted pairs of wires inside. Cat 5&6 both have 4 twisted pairs, but cat 6 has extra insulation between the pairs for better performance. You should always get #2 for these types of wire because they have solid copper wires and the insulation has very little weight. My yard even takes them with the ends on as #2.

I did some research and was able to find out cat 5 uses #24 wire and cat 6 uses #22 it is faster in data transfer and usually used in server conections. there is also a cat 6a faster yet, and soon to be a cat 7 which will contain some bare wire.
so cat 6 contains about 20% more copper then cat 5 as best as I can determin.

Olddude...cat6 has a 46%-48% recovery of copper.

You can get gigabit speeds out of cat5e also.
It's even better when you come across 24 pair cat5e/cat6 tucked away in a ceiling somewhere.

I would say any where from $1 to $1.25 a pound to your average scrap yard. From what I have heard it is 50-55 percent recovery.

I sold fifty pounds of cat5 and got. 70¢a pound had to be clean (no connectors). Insulated was 1.00 and low grade was.50¢ that day. Yard called it comm wire. So for price it falls in the middle for the wire I normally sell.

Last time I took Cat5/Cat5e in down here in the PA suburbs I got $1/lb. Up in Chelsea Ma. used to get about $1.25.

i get .70 lb for any insulated wire no matter how small
