    Cans

Does anyone scrap cat food cans ? I have collected quiet a few some are aluminum and some are metal. I wash them and there's no food left in thm. My question is can they be sold with the soda cans ? Also i have collected a bunch of cans that has had corn, beans etc in them and they have also been cleaned.

Just for good measure, I would quickly peel off most of the paper on them. You would need to talk to your scrap yard for pricing, but I think they would be priced aluminum cans. The tin cans you could probably sell as shred.

Cat food (and other food) cans are not equal to UBC scrap. Sell as old sheet.

I've always put them in with cans. Never had any issues. Just will depend on your yard.

Just make sure they are aluminum.

    Same with some aerosol cans.

Yards by me will count the cans as regular aluminum if they find aluminum food cans in there as the aluminum content is different. I always throw my clean aluminum cans in with my sheet aluminum.

I always put tin cans(food cans) in with my shred. Aluminum food cans you would have to check with your yard.

The tin cans I always run over to flatten and just throw them into an old stripped out microwave and shut the door, keeps that little stuff contained.

I get the regular can price for aerosol cans too, these just go in a separate bag. Fabreeze, body spray, hairspray, those types. Try salons and spas too, they go through a lot of them. I have a local tech school near me with a cosmetology program, a good source.

The only aerosol cans I've come across have been steel, except for Axe Deodorant cans. Those are aluminum. I always stab a hole in the side of them so that the yards don't give me a hard time when I toss em in the shred pile.

Yeah, sorry I meant just alum spray cans. Between my wife's hairspray, Febreeze, and others saved for me they add up. Some plastic tops pop off easier than others - Febreeze takes some prying, Old Spice twists off easy. I vent with an ice pick and hammer.

No problems with explosive decompression? I've always wondered about that.

    aerosol cans

i was going to ask about the aerosol cans we go thru a lot of them.update on the cat food cans we wash everyone of them, tear all labels off and let dry good before putting in a bag.I was wondering if it would be good to smash them with a hammer before i take them to the scrap yard..

I have a steel 55 gal barrel I throw my small steel in. Today I was using up all my almost empty spray paint cans on a rusty cabinet for my shop; when I used up the paint I let the rest of the gas out in the barrel (to contain any spats of paint) then took the pointed edge of a 5 in 1 paint tool and popped a hole in the can (holding the can in the barrel) then bent it in half on the barrel edge so there would be no mistaking the can was empty.

Just use a can opener and peel open the bottom and flatten them like a pancake. Less air that way.

My cat food cans go in with mixed aluminum. Just to avoid argument with anyone grading at my yard.

Just make sure all the pressure is bled out first, I listen till I don't hear any gas coming out. I used to also crush them in the vise so the yard wouldn't freak out, now I get soda can price since they're used to me bringing them.

I usually bleed off the pressure, then snug it in a vise. Then I hit it with a stick that has a nail in the end of it. Even if it still has pressure, being in the vise it won't go anywhere.
