Cool Gold in microwaves!! (Am I crazY?)

Finally got my hands on an old microwave. The circuit board for the LCD has small spots of gold. Definitely isn't copper, maybe brass? I took a gold finger from PCI card and compared side by side. Colors match exact and are bright gold! Microwave is a Sharp. They maybe others like this but covered with green paint or solder.

Yep and that's an IC chip (surface mount) under the black epoxy. Don't know if you have gold fingers on the ribbon cables or just silver.

That is a midgrade board. More than likely those 3 spots are copper, but i'm not there looking at it.

I found the same sort of microwave yesterday.

It really looks like Gold, but only the 'spots', the tracks under the varnish are a silvery colour, I expect they are nickel.

The touch panel has silver mylar/plastic contact sheet under the numbers etc.

Theres a few photos I made in another thread here> http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/scrap...icrowaves.html

I find that Panasonic and Sharp microwaves are the best. I've only taken apart a couple of Panasonic ones, but they were both full of copper, and the Sharp ones are always full of motors and mid-grade boards. Both usually have a good bit of wire weight, too.

i found my first old microwave last night. Its the type w/ the wood look. Cant wait to check it out.
On a side note, i found this in a vcr last night. I would think its copper bc the board is brown on the other side and the only thing on it is a 1.5" black plastic disc w/ a small ribbon cable connector on the other side.

You'll be surprised how many bit's-o-gold you'll find on a brown board. I found a pin connector (4 pins) on a monitor board (brown) and the pins were as big around as an ink pen cartridge and about 1" tall.
