    Flat screen seperating problem

I can't find an easy safe way to remove the broken glass from the large aluminum panel inside the flat screens. Granted there are many types of flat screens but this is the piece as big as the TV itself. I just can't see throwing it in with shred when I can make another 50+ cents per pound.

Any help is greatly appreciated, I've searched everywhere and asked other scrappers I talk to and no luck. Happy Sunday to you all

Why would you waste your time to get an extra $0.50 a lb. for something that take more than 2-3 minuets to disassemble is beyond me. Path of least resistence is your best bet.

They are impossible to separate. My yard told me they would give 15 cents a pound for it.

This is my full time job and I'm supporting 2 teenagers on it. I'm stacking them up for when I don't have anything else to do, I have 1 cleaned that weighs 28lbs that I can turn in for 7.56 and in my house that's toilet paper for the month, or deodorant for all 3 of us or shampoo, conditioner and soap for the month. I don't like wasting anything if there is more money to be made I sit it to the side until I find an easier way.

jbravo54 I use a sledge hammer and metal putty knife but I've gotten quite a few tiny shards of glass stuck in my fingers and it's a huge mess to clean up, was just trying to see if anyone else had an easy tricks with less mess!

One thing you might do is weigh the aluminum and glass before, and work out what the shred price would pay. Then weigh the aluminum after separating it and again work out the price it would pay. Glass is heavy, so you might be surprised.

I know lying is wrong, but if the elephant man came in now in a blouse with some make up on, and said, "How do I look?" Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say, "Go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny?" No. You'd say, "You look nice... John""

I used a sledge, bent the thing, and tried scraping, major PITA. if someonehas an easy way please share.

The glass is stuck on an aluminum backing with some kind of double sided soft rubbery tape throughout the entire glass.

I get a handful a month from a repair shop, 40inches and bigger. So an easier way would be helpful.

Brandon from the looks of it it's attached to some sort of 2 sided super stubborn sticky tape.

Thanks for the suggestion wayne, my first few went in shred. I have one identical to the clean one with the majority of the glass attached, I'll weigh that an calculate what the difference would be!

Thanks for the heat idea Brandon! Just called a friend of mine and he's going to borrow me his heat gun, going to try that with a putty knife and see how that goes. Hopefully it will make it come off easy....

This s good to know. I have taken a few flat screen tv's apart and never ran into this problem, maybe it's only the biger ones, if it is I'll stay away from them, doesn't seem to worth it to me.

The majority of the ones I have are 60in, a few have been just metal which go in "as is" but it's a nice chunk of aluminum if you come across them.

That's what I thought, I try not to take the big ones sence I work by myself and not as young as I once was. Those long flat circuit boards with nothing on them are high grade.

I have never used it to take a tv apart but give this a try. harbor freight sells a multi tool. You can get one for under $20 It should work for what you want. I use mine to separate glass from alum on double pane sealed windows. When I get a steel door with a window in it thats what I use. Takes maybe a minute. You may want to where ear plugs though they are louder than a freight train.

I think slaghunter is talking about this: Oscillating Multifunction Power Tool w/ Variable Speed

If you wait for the sale to come on, they go for $19.99. If you can't wait, search for one of the many 20% off coupons Harbor Freight always has floating around. MAKE SURE you get a blade suitable for cutting the material you have to work with. I made the mistake of cutting through a steel nail with the flat blade that came with mine and damaged the blade.

You will want hearing and eye protection using these!

Thanks for the tip! My dad has a Dremel so I'll see if that works, if it does I'll get one of the cheap ones from Harbor Freight. Always have a stack of the 20% and free item coupons, they put those in the Auto Swappers every other week for anyone who didn't know and wants a few extras.

I've never done one of these so I'm not sure what exactly you are talking about, but to get up little pieces of glass you can use the sticky side of rolled up duct tape. Be sure to wear heavy gloves or oven gloves.
