The yard I go to pays out about %70 to %75 of spot price for #2.

I figure in percentages because the market changes every few minutes!

EDIT to explain; I don't go to the yard to often, I collect and stockpile untill the price is right. Instead of calling the yard all the time I took my past bills and came up with my %.

I stopped in to buy some steel for a weld project in the SF Bay Area. Thought to ask on scrap pricing. Alco quoted me $1.60 lb for copper and 50 cents a lb for 700lbs of 5052 aluminum. Said if my AL was less than 700lb price would be much less. Then they wanted to sell me Al plate drops for $3.25 lb. Ridiculous.

Guess Im lucky, my local scrap yard has a running ad in the local news paper, always has the prices he is paying so there are no surprises. They are a very good company and has always treated me well. The above picture was a screen shop of the paper from today.

Our copper dropped from NZ$6.70 to NZ$6.20 Domestic.
Not bad considering Coppers $ dropped & our NZ$ vs US$ is bouncing around like a kid on a trampoline.

Prices on most all metals are taking a hit today. Last week looked like copper was gaining but as you can see slid back again.

I've converted my recent price that I got from a yard today into $ from £ and from kg to lbs and they come up as follows:

    al cast $0.50
    al extrusion $0.56
    copper #1 $2.51
    copper#2 $2.44
    brass $1.72
    short heavy steel $0.13
    light steel/tin $0.10
    cast iron $0.15

I forgot to ask about SS and insulated wire. Looks like they give an ok price on the copper stuff but it seems low for the heavy steel/cast iron and extruded aluminium to me? Has anyone else got any figures for UK prices?

NZ copper just went up a bit, from NZ$6.20 to NZ$6.90 a Kg. for domestic. 21/Oct/2011
    US$5.52Kg or US$2.50Lb

    Today, 25/Oct/2011 Up to NZ$7.40 Kg !!

Wow thats a jump, I thought it said $6.40 when I got the money....

Here in western NY, I was paid $3.00lb. for Bright & Shiny. #2 copper was $2.80lb. I was somewhat disappointed because I thought #1 copper was going for $3.55 lb.
