    Prices still holding

Well, at least on shred. Just got back from the yard. Took in 1800lbs. Mostly computer carcasses, striped printers and some misc yada yada

    Still at 205.00 a ton

    Taking a load of non-ferrous tomorrow...I hope.

    Will update with those prices.

    Have a good day! BroJer

Can you share who in Wichita is paying 210/t for shred? I have a guy that pays 200/t for cars, but I haven't talked to him about bringing in loose stuff. I try to throw all my metal in a car before I take it in, but if I get overloaded before I have a car to take, the place I go to pays 150/t. Last time I called around for steel pricing (indeed was last fall, but steel hasn't changed much around Wichita since then), the best I found was 175/t, but that wasn't for shred.

There is a new yard in my town (scrap management) that set up right next to the biggest yard in town . Their pricing is better on almost everything. To get better pricing on shred find out where the smaller yards are taking theirs to. The yards in wichita take their scrap to the two big yards in north wichita. If your at the yard long enough youll see the trucks from other yards pulling in. if your getting 150 to 170 for shred in wichita then your selling to someone who is selling to the yards with the shredder. Cut out the middle man and get more for your shred.

As much scrap as you go through they might do a pick up or place a dumpster. I would call cause they might have other customers in the area since they work throughout the midwest. They are a really big company with locations in kc and st. joe and a second location coming soon to wichita with a mega shredder.

I know who you're talking about MER, saw the Wichita Business Journal writeup They were the same as the place I usually go on #2 copper (which is what I was unloading the day I called them) so didn't check other stuff. I thought they might be paying higher, at least for awhile, after they opened to the public. I'll have to check with them on some other stuff when I get a load. I just hate trying out new spots. When I called about the #2 copper, the lady said, "well if the buyer grades it as #2, then the price will be $..." I know what I have, I don't need the caveat! I'm sure if there is a disagreement, then they will let me know why, and I'll either decide to sell it or try someone else. Plus it costs me $3.50 to drive there vs about $1 for my normal stop. Thanks for the heads up on them!

BroJer: You are getting a drop as well eh. We took a $20/ton hit on Sheet Steel here- it held for about a week and a half at $240/ton, back down to $220 and one yard at $230.
