heating element wire
Took in wire samples from a dryer heating element and an electric furnace to get shot by the gun. Both came back as HW 6015.
58% nickel
28% iron
17% chromium
Now that I know what it is, where do I sell it? Also, they only pay shred for stove elements. I'm thinking there is an opening there to persue!

Thanks for doing the research. I wish I could provide more input. You may have found a niche market.
How to gain volume will be the challenge. That much nickel and chromium in quantity will be attaractive to a lot of buyers. Maybe you could target the scrapyards in your area to sell to you. Certainly you could hit the small scrappers to save theirs and sell to you.
I guess your question of who to sell to is the most important. Your buyers will determine the quantity you need to accumilate and that will give you a clue as to wether or not to proceed. I hope to hear of your sucess. Mike.

Thanks Mike! I have been talking to a buyer about the stove elements so I collected a few hundred pounds of them last month. Need to call them again now that I know what the wire is.

I had this link saved for some reason, maybe you can pull something good out of it.

that heating element found in dryers and ac unnits with heat cycle is called NYCROME as long as a magnet dose not stick to it. The scrap yard i deal with buys it for $2.00 per lbs. Keep checking with your local yards, not all yards buy it. GOOD LUCK!

The website I listed above is gone from that site, Those links there are crap.

I save all elements just in case. Maybe some day they'll go in shred if i can't make it work out...but i'd hate like he** to just put them in scrap for nothing only to find out they are worth so much more...got a couple of quality ss elements that i've been holding on to. OMG, espn is killing me with this satellite stall problem. Sorry, basketball and scrap forums may not mix real well. :-)

Freonjoe, just wondering if you ever spoke to your buyer about those stove heating elements? I have 100 pounds saved up and curious as to what they are worth. I also have 30 lbs. of dryer heating elements. Called a couple of yards today to get quote. Only one yard I spoke to was interested in buying them. They offered me $1.50 lbs. " I passed on the offer " still searching for better buyer.

I did talk to my buyer about the stove elements and heating element wire. Right now he is at .70 a pound on the elements and 4.00 on the wire with no minimum. Hoping to have enough to take over to see if the prices bump up a little.
