black box on telephone pole next to house

Ok came home and there is a black pelican box padlocked with thick shackle chain about neck high on the telephone pole next door. Neighbor and i discussed it and pondered. Sticker says **** county Sheriff. Waddyou think? Googled it and could be a traffic counter speed checker. No antennae etc.

Is that one of those boxes they plug a hose into for cars to run over for a traffic counter, sometimes do a 24 hr check. They take them in and download the info. If there's two hoses separated by a distance, then those are a speed counter.

They might be conducting surveillance on you or someone around you. In Florida the police use remote mounted cameras in boxes usually on utility poles to spy on drug and theft suspects. The cameras don't come in a certain configuration, there are at least a few models.

To sum it up the police mounted a camera on a utility pole across from a hydroponics gardening store in order to record people and license plates.....

Edit-After re-reading the post maybe it is to watch drug traffic come down the street?

That's seems really conspicuous. Do their suveilance vans say "police" on the sides too?

Probably some type of motion detecting traffic counter. Or it has a radar gun inside and they are trying to determine the average speed on that road or see if speeding is a problem.

ScrapYaHerd that is crazy. Here there are meth labs everywhere even driving up and down the road and they are staking out a hydroponics shop and sniffing around there customers houses.

It could be a device that registers when a patrol car gets near it to verify that the officer is indeed making his rounds and not sleeping on some back road.
