They survived and made lots n lots of babies.
I was born way before 3.5 billion, I blame you.

What you think of as freedom is an illusion branded on you by corporations and their (mostly) right wing puppets in the various state and federal governments.

Think of Obama and people like him what you want. They are the only chance you have to truly keep regain some sort of freedom.

If you want to see where we are heading currently, watch the TV show 'Continuum'.
The country is completely ran by Corporations.

Very scary, but also appears to be realistic portrait of current developments. E.g. Citizens United ruling etc.
It is not a corporation problem, it is a government control problem. I have a choice if I want to do business with Apple or Ford (we are forced to do business with Dodge and GM because government gave them billions of taxpayer money), I have no choice but to pay our government to enforce laws I am completely opposed to. Without government, corporations have no power.

Kinda democratic in the way it works but what the heck ... lets just go with it.

A smart cookie plays both ends against the middle. The corporations are major contributors to the election funds of both the progressives and the conservatives. That way ... no matter how it plays out ... they have someone in office that will look out for their best interests.

Look at the current sitting president : He inherited a mess. The economy was doing a meltdown and the banking industry was in dire need of a bailout. He provided that bailout to the BIG multinational banks. Next, the auto industry was in trouble so he bailed out those companies. Then there was the whole green energy Solyndra fiasco. Then, there was " The healthcare crisis in America " so he FORCED everyone to go BUY health insurance.Let's not forget about the HARP program.

The prime beneficiaries were BIG business not the average working stiff.

    That ain't freedom bro.

Ayn Rand warned against this back in the early 60's because she saw similar scenarios play out in the communist USSR.

It's often bad juju when the government gets in cahoots with private industry. The little guy often ends up becoming an economic slave to the system. It's what naturally happens when any country trends too far left of center.
The Fountainhead was written in 1943 and Atlas Shrugged was written in 1957. Have you read either? I have read Atlas Shrugged. I have The Fountainhead, but I have not read it yet.

Better education is really important but there's a problem that comes with it .... better educated people start thinking for themselves and ask uncomfortable questions. That's generally not good for the traditional religions in the region.
We figured that out in the eighties...

It is not about "THEY" and who they can hurt, it is about YOU, and standing with ME to make sure "THEY" cannot get more power to hurt "US."

Ayn Rand seemed to hit the peak of her popularity back in the early 60's. There was that whole thing with the billboards that were emblazoned with the phrase " Who is John Gault ? "

I can't honestly say that i've completely read either The Fountainhead or Atlas Shrugged. She was mercilessly self indulgent in her writing style and took a hundred pages to tell a part of the story that could have been condensed into twenty. Didn't have the time or the patience to wade through it all just to get that kernel of her wisdom.

It's a lot more efficient to check out the Ayn Rand institute and some of the Libertardian sites. The one that Ron Paul sponsors is fairly decent and gets to the point without wasting a lot of your time.

If you possibly can .... Atlas Shrugged was made into a multi-part movie. As far as i know it's freely available at Netflix and some other sites. Rand used a made up story to teach certain principles about what happens when a government starts trending far left of center. If you pay attention you may even see a lot of modern day parallels with what's happening in America today.

If you went back far enough i bet you would find that she observed these patterns unfolding in Russia as it transitioned into the communist state of the U.S.S.R. (It's creepy how the patterns of the past tend to repeat themselves.)

Might be something you would find really interesting T.....

If nothing else ... you get a hundred cool points for being able to answer the question on the billboard !

( No points for looking it up on the internet. )

Street sweeper - VIP's & Secret Service Suck, when they come to any city!

I don't want to change the subject of this thread and I'm not any fan of China period! You would be surprised to learn Boeing and China have a very long history. I hate that they have decided to build their first factory outside of this country, in China. The following is just three paragraphs of a Boeing news update, this was dated July of this year and as I say put out by the Boeing Aircraft Company:

    Boeing in China

For more than 40 years, Boeing has been privileged to serve in the development of China’s air transport system. In 1972, the historical visit by President Richard Nixon to China led to the introduction of Boeing aircraft to this market. Boeing has a long-standing relationship with Chinese airlines, the Chinese aviation industry, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and the Chinese government.

The history of cooperation between Boeing and China’s aviation industry traces back to 1916. The first engineer that Bill Boeing hired was China-born Wong Tsoo, who helped design the company’s first commercial success — the Model C bi-wing airplane. Mr. Wong later returned to China, playing an important role in early Chinese aviation.

This heritage of mutual benefit and joint contribution continues today. The State Council of China has declared that aviation will remain a critical component of China’s continuing economic development. Boeing forecasts that over 20 years China will need 6,020 new airplanes, worth more than $870 billion. This demand will make China Boeing’s largest commercial airplane customer. In turn, Boeing equity investment in China’s aviation industry is considerable, with Boeing being the leading commercial purchaser.

Why is Boeing building a plant in China? To keep control of the aircraft manufacturing market, the only "real" competition is Airbus Industries, a European consortium of companies heavily subsidized by European Governments. I have been to most of these factories, there is a "night and day" difference in how the aircraft are built. Boeing has building aircraft down to a science, they have been doing it almost since the invention of the airplane. One of the first things you will notice at a Airbus factory, workers watching other people work, "paid to not work", the term used for these workers: "Idle Workers". In short the difference between the two companies: Boeing is a traditional American company, financed by investors demanding a profitable return. Airbus Industries is a mixed Investor/Government consortium, financed to promote European Aviation interest. Setup in the 80's to save a failing European Aerospace industry, mandated to employ as many people as possible (creating positions like "idle workers"), Socialism at it finest.

Boeing is building a factory in China, a place that has government sanctioned everything. To "checkmate" Airbus Industries and European socially funded factories already well established in China.

So what does Boeing and the our political (rancher's) leaders do? They "Roll out the Red Carpet" and invite the Chinese to a State Dinner, served on the finest porcelain "Obama china".

Maybe this isn't to far off topic, from the OP's intention's of this thread?

If it's not Boeing, I'm not going!

Sorry ... interesting thread ... can't help myself.

Going back through the thread ... it seems like we all want the same thing and have the same concerns.

In my opinion i would say moderation in things is the key. The sheeple tend to follow blindly and don't think for themselves. They just parrot back the party talking points whether it's left, right, libertarian, anarchist, or whatever.

The big problem is that nobody's philosophy has all of the answers for making things right again. If there was a party that did have the answers it would be easy. Just do that ..... !

You've gotta use your noggin. When somebody comes up to you and says " I think this new government program would be a really good idea " you've got to be able to tell them why it might not be a good choice.

IMO ... the thing you're concerned about is the growth of government bureaucracy. It's not a conspiracy to rob your freedom. It's simply that the government is a living thing. If it's fed regularly (funded) it grows and even produces offspring.Given enough time it gets really big and very hungry for your money. It's nothing personal .... that's just what it does.

About the only solution i can think of is to either not start these programs in the first place -or- reduce the funding and bring these different branches of government back under control.

That's a hard thing because there are many people that would happily trade off some of their freedoms for a larger government that would provide more services to it's people. They don't seem to understand the true cost of that choice.
