Can you sell a broken fridge?

I got a refrigerator that was only 6 years old today. It was in great clean condition but the owner said that it had a freon leak that was fixable but didnt have the time to do it and just wanted it out of there. Well im moving in about a week and wont really have time to try and fix it, store it, then sell it on craigslist. Do appliance stores buy things like this? any other ideas?

also since all the freon is leaked out I can gut the radiator, right?

I would not take the owners word for it on the leak being repairable. I am sure he is not a tech. and sure he did not spend the money for someone to do a leak check but not have it repaired.

Appliance stores get used appliances for free when they deliver new ones. I doubt they will pay anything for a leaking unit.

When you go to scrap it don't just assume it is empty of it's charge. It could just be low, or full ( may have other problem and owner is just guessing a leak) of freon.

    So be careful!

Good point. I broke down window unit couple weeks ago, the guy told Me ..all the freon leaked out..

Lucky for me I don't take any chances, so was careful when I cut into it, sure enough first little cut sprayed gas everywhere!!

But honestly you can sell anything, just gotta find the right buyer.

My brother came across a pretty nice side by side stainless fridge on CL a few years back. Doesn't cool seller says.

He went out and took a look at it, took down some info then contacted the manufacturer to see if it was still under warranty. It was, so he ponied up the $100 or whatever the guy wanted, took it home and had a tech come out to install and charge a new compressor.

Not to say the fridge you have is still under warranty, but it's something to think about in the future if you come across new/newer stuff that doesn't work any more.

Excellent idea. In fact, just got a call to picked up a stainless steel side by side fridge that partially works. Wifey would love this fridge.

Make an egg incubator out of it. I've seen the same things for chicken eggs. You still get all the good parts, but instead of getting 10 cents/pound for the steel, you can sell it for a few hundred bucks.

My local utility paid me $30 for mine. I had to plug it in and prove it ran (not got cold, just ran) and they took it and sent me a check.

It's part of a program to retire older less effiecent appliances.

We have the same thing in my area. You can only cash in 2 per person though
