I have a TON of these laptops to break down. Is there anything I can do with the keys? Like maybe sell to a crafter or something?

On eBay, the keys can sometimes fetch a dollar or two per key. Could be worse.
As for crafts projects, why not? I could see them being cool. Some day, I may complete my project of making them into a name badge.
On laptops, you'll have to remove the backing from them. They're usually plastic, and snap right off.

you CAN also sell said laptops including the keyboards if you remove nicely for PARTS....and generally you can sell many laptops for FAR more than scrap value as a parts/non working machine....the screens are the most expensive thing generally in them, so even older ones with good screens are worth more than breaking it down...ESPECIALLY if you factor in the time it takes (they are a PITA)
Just sayin....ALWAYS check Ebay for the market for parts machines, parts for different things like say a dyson vacuum (hint - the hoses and canisters sell for more than you will get in plastic)...really all sorts of stuff sell for parts. Scrap is the LAST place to send something valuewise.

I consistently sell these to crafters. I don't know what they use them for. Possibly vase filler?

There is a thread on here about items that can be solder for then scrap price to crafters. Like 8 pages long.
Good read an should give you plenty of info on other items you come across.

I read somewhere that the 'oddball' keys can be sold to be placed on other keyboards.
The ones which have certain logos on them, key directions, or city or state abbreviations, or colors etc.
Just for people who are customizing their keyboards or like their keyboards to be like other keyboards they have had.

I have 3 in the back of the garage now, 2 compaq and 1 IBM. If I'm ever bored enough I will pull them off and toss them in a ziploc bag, maybe sell as a lot on ebay.

I was going to say the same thing as Webuytradesellthings but he beat me to it. If you can sell your laptops locally you will make more money than braking them down, If you don't have a local e-waste buyer try GL. Not worth shipping. Keyboard keys would sell better on e-bay.

I will say this...I have sold a BUNCH of laptops on ebay...and they pay shipping...so don't count it out...in fact I have 2 that will be going on tomorrow that are missing parts.Originally Posted by happyscraper

Any newer laptop in most any condition is an easy sell on Ebay.........Just make sure you don't pay much for them
