    old electronics

If you find old electronics they may be worth more to sell as is. I work on computers for a living and restore old electronics as a hobby. Some old electronics are valuable and most do not know it. about 20 years ago a old man called me up and asked if I wanted his old tube junk. I went over to haul it off. One radio case caught my eye so I put it in my trucks cab. I looked for the chassis in the junk and put it up in the cab as well. He had been using this one for parts to fix radios to sell for 5 bucks apiece. What he didn't know is at that time the fada radio I found was worth a grad or more then restored. I pieced it together and still have it.

TVs are another thing that may have value. The newer LCD and flat screens you might could sale to someone who fixes them. Many new TVs have issues with capacitors and they are a easy fix. Then id they are not the issue they may have value as parts. Another is the old Wooden TV cases. I use to check out TVs for a guy who had a second hand store. If the TV was junk I got to keep the parts but I took the gutted case to him. He would add one board and sell it as a book case for 5 bucks. Not bad money for him to take 5 minutes to fix it 25 years ago. Today I have seen them as dog houses people put in their house.

Other old TVs and items to look for is anything with tubes. A lot of old tube TVs can be worth a little money. If you are lucky and find a RCA CT100 you can get a big price for it. Junk it you may get pennies on the dollar. I have heard of these nonworking going for hundreds of dollars to thousands restored. The old round screen tubes are popular as well.. Even some in the 60s may be worth a few bucks. I have seen quite a few of them go for 25,50, or more bucks each. I am going ot a radio meet and I know there is a 1949 TV that will be there. I may buy it if it isn't gone. The price is 100 bucks. So this old stuff can be worth stuff. The old high voltage coils new in the box also brings good money.

One thing big right now is stereos. I specialize in table top tube radios but hte hot ticket items is the stereos from the 60s and 70s. If it has tubes it can be a gold mine. The old boxy type radio, record players that were in cabinets can bring big money. There were a few that had seperate tube amps built into them. Then the radio and record player plugged into them. I saw one of these go for well over 150 bucks unrestored on ebay. I just got done rebuilding one for a fellow. This amp would probably worth well over 300 after I was finished.

So whe nyou see a old shed someone wants the junk gone if it has some type of electronics in it do a search to see if it has any value.

Willy, Very good post and I do agree with you.
I just want to enlighten you on my "discovery" from going thru my pile of older TV/stereo boards. You'll know what they are from doing your repair work.
They are worth a lot more after you get a bunch saved they can be refined or sold on Ebay.
No sense letting them go on a .10-20 a lb board.

I just got a nice little pile of older stereos, turntables, 8 tracks, etc, not quite in the tube type days though, still not sure what I'll do yet, might just scrap em. Ever seen a "Reader's Digest" Stereo? (made in Taiwan ; ) Reminds me of an old Pioneer set my brother had back in the late 60s

Very good point Mechanic688 by going to ebay. I don't have a ebay account but it moght be worthwhile. A lot of folks like myself do have them though that work on older stuff. That old stereo part worth 5 cents in scrap may be worth 10 ,20 or more bucks. As far as old stereos bear I have been collecting old tube stuff for well over 25 years. Back when I started you couldn't give away the old transistor portable radios. Today there are collectors for even them, some of them will go into the hundreds. If you don't want to ebay them post them locally on a sales site. I have a ad right now in my area that I want old stuff.

There is collectors for all that stuff. The radio at the bottom is a repo I think. If it doesn't have tubes it is a repo. It looks like a repo of a full size Zenith radio. Is the jukebox selector at the top a radio? They made a repo and it was a radio. If it is a original selector for a jukebox you have some big bucks there, probably the most expensive piece if it is. I saw one I could have bought over 25 years ago and a old phone like that was with it. The guy wanted 150 bucks for it and 75 for the phone. But the price on both has went up a lot. Good eye on saving them.

    I've been surprised a few times. I sold a 1981 VCR for 80.00 - shipping.

Vintage Panasonic Video Cassette Recorder PV1270 | eBay

I don't really consider it "vintage" like electronics for the 60's and 70's but I figured I'd take a shot on getting more than shred.

When I have money one of my hobbies is restoring old tube radios. But the best find I ever found at the curb was a working Pioneer sx-1250. A lot of the 1970s receivers are worth some pretty good cash.
