Selling Washers and Dryers for more $$$$$$

A buddy of mine who also scraps e-scrap and regular scrap gave me a very nice call today about a new connection he made with an appliance repairmen in a neighboring town. This guy is buying certain brands of washers/dryers, and will pay $20-$40 each (working or broken).

I always said that I'd love to buy some ground and set up a building with plenty of space, hire an appliance repair person, and let them go to town on all the nice appliances I bring in (a lot of which are very easily repaired, as I'm sure you have the same experiences). People are ALWAYS looking for cheap, working appliances, especially in an economy where hardly anyone has "new appliance" money.

Anyway, it just goes to show that you should always look around for people who will pay you more for your scrap. Even though I focus on e-scrap these days, I'll still go out and pick up appliances (which is how I got started), as I still get calls every day to do just that.

This even has an impact on how far I might go for a load and other aspects of the business - because now, that single pick-up that I might have passed up a few weeks ago could now be well worth picking up.

    Anyway, just thought I'd share.

Hey BigRyan , Ive been removing appliances for 2 yrs. now. Its a great source of income if you have the connections " second hand buyers". Seems most appliances repairmen want Kenmore or Whirlpool washers/dryers. I can fetch $50.00 each for a non-working "WHITE " 9yrs. or newer washer or dryer thats a Kenmore or Whirpool. The other brandes will bring $40-$45 untested. As for refriges, Top-Bottom's that are fairly clean avarage $40.00-$55.00. Clean side x side's depending on brand and features can bring $60.00 - $85.00. Stainless refriges anywhere from $75.00 - $200.00 untested complete. I haven't been able to find a buyer for used dishwasher's, but I have been playing around with ads on Craigslist trying to sell the racks in them. On Ebay they can bring on average $35.00- $88.00 for just the used rack.
Just a little tip to put more money in your pocket: I always remove the dryer power cord and throw in my insulated wire stash!!!

Good luck and shop for your best buyer!!!!

Big Tex, I've been having pretty good luck moving dishwasher racks so far. My biggest customers have been property management companies.

I bumped ir up from 30 to 45 bucks and no one has complained. I've been inventorying them by part number and that has really helped.

Haha, I've got an old Magic Chef all metal dishwasher I think works, and found the rack alone lists for over $200, motor $150 Etc, listed it on CL complete for $100, maybe I should part it out, I saved the pages that has the part numbers all listed (many of which are no longer available at any price)

Awesome buyers you have there! Yep, I do the dishwasher racks when I get the time. Have sold quite a few last year on eBay. I've also sold the emblems and knobs off of vintage appliances too, it's amazing how many collectors and restorers of that stuff there is out there!

    Hey Ryan,

My apologies for highjacking this thread, but could you email me your direct web url for the ebook to georgebeale@viprecycling.com? please. I am wanting to buy it now, as I mentioned last week, that I would be doing so.

For some reason, the link in your signature still is not working.

I would have PMed you, but I cant do that.

PS. Also, I have a guy like that here, in Woodbridge VA. He is offering similar prices to what you named.

Haven't sold any to him as of yet, as I mostly deal with straight junk removal now, but definitely have his information on hand!

I used to do this with a buddy out of the barn he rented. We would sell them for $50 all day and then deliver them and haul away the old. Great little gig if you ask me.

Personally we pay up to $20 for a washer or dryer. More if the people dropping it off to us can wait a few minutes while we plug it in and check it out. I assume that's about the average.
