Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else

I recently took some extruded to two different scrap yards. They tell me they no longer have an extruded category and it all goes as sheet now! Anyone know why they’d do this and has that happed to you?

Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing.

Could be they needed some more sheet to finish filling up a shipment? Or price of sheet more than extruded.
    Better than the dump!

Maybe, I’ve never seen sheet pay better than extruded though. I know other industries are tightening their belts regarding how they service, had me thinking the scrap markets are doing the same….. but that wouldn’t make sense to me.

I checked the price sheets from a number of scrap yards and they all had extruded listed separately from sheet.

Extruded pays about fifty cents a pound and is the highest grade.

Cast ali is about 32 cents a pound.

Sheet pays about thirty cents a pound and is the lowest grade aside from dirty aluminum.

What are they paying for sheet in Indiana these days ?

Do you know if your yards sell to OmniSorce? I know they are located someware in Indiana. One yard i use to go to sold to them and they took sheet, siding and extr all at the same price. you could even throw it all in the same pile without separating it. I dont know if it got separated later down the line, but thats how it worked there.

Sheet is going for 40 cents, cast aluminum 43 cents, shred 175/ton, and I asked if they were ever going to take extruded at extruded prices and they said pricing is back. So that’s a good thing. She said she didn’t really know why it was taken off but it only lasted a couple of months. That’s good for me though. 60cents clean, 57 painted!

No they don’t. They are in direct competition with Omnisource and run better than Omnisource in my opinion. Used to have a dealer account with Omnisource and it was very poorly managed regarding getting correct prices. I now only use them if I need to drop a load from a clean out and they are the closest.
