Old Ham Radios

At a yard sale a guy was selling an old ham radio for $50. I didn't buy it, but was thinking about going back to get it. The thing must have weighed 100 pounds and he said it was from the late 40's--and still works! Any idea about the resale market for this stuff? If none, what are my chances of getting back the $50 in scrap value?

Scrap value wouldn't be much as it's tube type and low grade brown boards. The most value would be the tubes and transformers.

i'd expect it to fetch far more than scrap value, but that's a long distance guess, and 100 pounds is near formidable to ship, effectively killing your main market. Unless you are able to locate some local interest, it would be a long term, low odds gamble, unless, you are ready willing and able to part it out, and if you choose to get it, that might be your best "bet" ; )

Some of those old boards from the 40's,50's,&60's are worth way more than low grade. They have a lot of silver solder on the and back then they used a lot more pm's.

If a ham radio shows any sign of life please do not scrap it, contact me I can buy them, or get you information of someone who will buy them! Especially an old tube type radio.

This place might be some help to you either price wise or they do buy up old inventory. They have been around for a lot of years and quite a few of the older ham operators check their site occasionally.
