    pressed in hard drive motors

i got lazy, the hammer and punch thing is fine but loud.

I went to harbor freight and bought a 1/2 ton arbor press, and i am using the square bits that come with bit sets as a punch

    much quieter lol

I like that... does this have enough force to separate the copper core from a copper/aluminum heat sink??? I would buy one if it worked. The sawing and pounding get old.

Had the same thought. Was also wondering if you heat it with a torch just enough and then put in a vice and smack the copper core out?

haven't tried it on a heat sink yet, i don't have any

you may have to make an adapter though, the opening on the bottom may not be big enough.

For the heat sinks, I usually use a break rotor on the bottom, a socket on the top, and a one hand sledge. very similar to how my friend removes worn out u-joints.

I believe harbor freight has a 1 ton model too, but i went cheap lol

Yes this works as the aluminium expands more than copper when heated. Then the hammer and punch works a lot easier.
