Our yard is now open Sundays.

Man these guys work all the time and now the boss them to work sundays too.
Sucks for the workers but great for us.
Now the scrap yard is gonna get sick of Betty and I, especially seeing my ugly mug 7 days a week. Well atleast Betty is easy on the eyes.

Thanks cody and I do lol.. be nice about it though. I had people at 2am before, cleanup was on and they wanted to be able to go get another load so they came in at 2am. We are nice (or stupid) enough to open up at that time lol. We are usually pretty busy on sunday because we are the only ones around open. wescrapmetal is selling me some stuff too and he lives 45mins away and has 3 big local yards!

I would be tempted to get some covered, lockable skips for some of your regulars. Weld a BIG padlock to it on a chain, then give them a key and paint their name on the skip. If they want to drop off their shred after hours they can do and you get to stay in bed. They could then come in the next day, bring their ali, copper, etc and cash out. It would work on trust, but it might save your sanity. On busy nights they can then do multiple runs and bring in greater volume. The other option would be a 40 foot container with doors each end. Weld a partition in the middle and you have two spaces for drop offs. You would have to put skip or something inside it though so they could dump their shred in it otherwise you would have to drag it all out by hand.

Next time some skips come in for scrap, it might be a better use of them, or certainly worth a trial run.

Just do it in a way that someone can't lift the entire skip and steal everything.

I know lying is wrong, but if the elephant man came in now in a blouse with some make up on, and said, "How do I look?" Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say, "Go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny?" No. You'd say, "You look nice... John""

Not a bad idea wayne.. I might have to put some thought into that now because there isn't may people that late and our sanity is hanging by a thread some days because people just keep coming lol.. I try to NEVER turn junk away.. Selling to us when everyone is closed doesn't mean they sell to us when everyone else is open.. I see it all the time, my weekenders and after hour people selling at the competition (who is a lot bigger) so I like the convenience end of the way we do it. Gets us junk and that's our business.
