I'd say if they are 40lbs or bigger you can sell them for 40-50 cents a pound on craigslist. Smaller ones I'd just scrap though.

This thread on free weights caught my eye as I have done well in the past with free weights when you can put a nice painted set together with a heavy duty bench.

I would have a interested person now and then that wanted the ambiance and vintage character of the old style free weights.

I still have a few hundred pounds of them around here. Not many interested in free weights for use as the world has become more busy.

I would rather split fire wood or toss appliances around for building up the muscles then work out with weights these daze.

It is interesting how the trends of exercise equipment have changed over the years.

The free weights had their season, then came the all in one work out machines with weights, springs or large rubber bands. And we must not forget the rowing machines with the adjustable shocks.

    And my all TIME favorite,

the EASY SLIDER or something like that. A cheap joke of a ski machine. I sure do have a bunch of those magical melt away the fat and pounds for $69.97 plus S&H machines around the yard. I would think about how I must have over a million dollars new retail price in the workout equipment and it's only worth scrap prices..

If the workout machines had magic powers that would give you 6 pack abs and a youthful figure just having them around, I would of noticed it by now.

If a person has the space to store free weights and the bars and such, they will become popular again when the vintage exercise trend comes around again. Might be awhile.

The free weights have other uses also for art and such. I have seen scrap metal art with the free weights as the wheels.
