82 Computer Towers Last Couple of Days

Hi - Every once in awhile I get a call on my Craigslist listing. I never pay for stuff, but I do take it all. This load was 82 computer towers. 20 monitors and some miscellaneous boards. Most of the computers are 386 or 486 but some newer that I'll refurbish and sell as working computers. Also, a few gems - a board with a first generation 4004 chip - worth a bunch. An Altair computer (believe this precedes the Apple 1) and a couple of boards with 8088 chips.

For me, scrapping is the last resort. Much rather do some research and find collectors or those that can reuse what I find.

I'm wondering if any of you have use boardsort.com to sell to. Prices seem very good. Are they reputable? Any other buyers/refiners of electronics that you like better?

    Thanks and good luck

    Mike

I use boardosrt and they are fine. Eastwed pays better prices than boardsort though from what Ive found. Easyrecycle is another buyer here on the forum as well. Might get a better deal with easyrecycle as well seeing your in california and shipping to boardsort in ohio will be more expensive for you then shipping to easy in texas.

Mike...You ask a lot of questions for someone that knows the "secrets". Will you be making a contribution ($$$) to this great forum any time soon?

KZ - U and me are on the same wave length! You would think some one with 20 years experience would share more info than ask for it.

Few years back I was looking for some new hockey drills for the team and bought a Ebook that promised new and exciting drills...only thing of value was the money back guarantee.

What I get out of the ebook is a drop in the bucket. The big payoff is heaing the success stories.

Newbies can get info here free? I wish. That's the way it should be but I've seen how many newbies are treated here. Instead of answering questions, they are often told in a very mean spirited way to do the reseaerch, use search engines....

In fact, on my website and blog I've recommended that folks come here to this forum! I wonder now if this was right thing to do given the treatment I see of many who post very innocent questions.

Just a couple of weeks ago I was one of those newbies you talk about. What I knew about ewaste could have been written on the back of a capacitor. Since joining this board I have learned from the advice I have recieved and the information I have found. All of the advice I read and the videos I watched were free, and it was shared by people who have made their discoveries the hard way, by trial and error.

You mention people being treated in a mean spirited way, but this is not behaviour that I recognise on this board. I've made 40 posts, and I've been thanked 33 times in 17 of those posts. That isn't a record of people being mean spirited.

While we are on the subject of friendliness, if you check my friends page you will see that I have found three other scrappers in the UK who are contributors to this board. I find this to be excellent, considering this board is primarily used by people from the US.

I should have done this earlier, but now seems as good a time as any.

Thank you to all of the people on this board who take the time to share their hard earned knowledge with myself and others for free. Your willingness to help myself and others is wonderful, and I have much respect for you all.

Glad you had a good experience. I've had some good ones too and I know there are some really fine folks on this forum, but there are a couple of mean-spirited ones as well that have not treated newbies well at all.

Sorry to hear. Many have been really inspired, but it's not for everyone. Please PM me, let me know the email that you used when you purchased the ebook and you will get a refund immediately. Or, did you already get a refund? Let me know.

Difference between being mean spirited and being able to see thru BS and the past couple of mornings I've had to put my boots on when I get to your posts.

What you expect people here to do is most unreasonable. Why should people answer the same question over and over when they themselves have taken the time to read the information for themselves, before asking a question that has already been asked before?. Not only is this pointless but what you promote to be good practice does for all of us including new members a disservice. Instead of having easy to find information through the search function they now have to re-read posts on the same subject over and over. If left unchecked this will over time lead to a great many posts thus making the search function unusable for those who actually make some effort on their own part.

Not the right place for this discussion, but I will continue it just a tad further. Careful wording in a title can make the advanced search tool far better than it is. Just saying.

Nice load, RS. Can I call you RS? I have a guy on the hook right now that says he has a garage full of 386 and 486 stuff. He has my number and unfortunately not the other way around. Of course one man's definition of a "garage full" is different than the next guy's. The last time I rolled on a "garage full", I ended up with 4 towers and a box full of other misc.

    Keep on scrappin' all!

I understand that. What I don't like to see is the ridicule, calling someone stupid for posting, etc.
