New source for leads and advertising

Wanted to share with you guys a new venue in which you can advertise your services and spot scrap for pickups. I was told about it by one of my mom's friends who frequently gives me scrap. It's a website/app called "nextdoor". It's a social media type site similar to Facebook however it groups members based on where you live. When you sign up you enter your address and it determines which "cell" you belong to. The feed is only posts from neighborhoods close to you. And for a little privacy, you can contact people outside your group but only people in your group can see your full profile and vice versa. I signed up last night and commented on someone asking where to get rid of some ewaste. Got a call a little bit ago and have a pickup scheduled for this afternoon. Not sure how widely known this app is as I had never heard of it til now. But that could sometimes be a good thing. Less competition gunning for listings. Lol.

I wonder how well it would work for the folks like myself who do not live near a city ...

I am not familiar with this app, BUT.... I had a guy drop off some stuff a month ago and asked me if he could put my info on the app, so the people in his neighborhood would know where to recycle electronics. A day later I had someone asking me to do an earth day drive in one of the largest cities in my area.

It's definitely worth looking into. I had only responded so someone's question yesterday and got the pickup. This morning around 1030 I put a general post up advertising my service. I immediately got multiple responses, made 2 decent pickups today, have a couple scheduled for tomorrow, and a few that will get back to me as soon as they get their stuff gathered up.

i'm glad it works for you,

I looked at it here in Jax, and it is split up too small, I can literally jog around the neighborhood i'm assigned (i'm a little athletic) it's just not enough coverage,
Oh I'm right at the dividing line of a neighborhood so people east of me that I can literally see are in another neighborhood. I like the concept, but it needs to be tweaked

I figured it'd be hit or miss for you guys depending where you live. I read somewhere in the app there's about 100 members. Which is a lot of people but when you spread them nationwide, it's not really that many. Ht1, your assigned neighborhood may be small. Mine is as well. But you should have the option to post to just yours or the "nearby" ones. I, for example, have 19 around me that my posts reach. So far I've gotten about 6 or 7 pickups in the last 2 days and have a few scheduled for tomorrow aND neXT week. My Facebook page I made a while ago on the other hand, only got me 1 or 2 from random strangers and one from a family member that knew I scrapped prior to creating it.

I have not. But looks like a similar deal. May do better in some areas than others based on user numbers. But I will definitely look into it. Any lead is a good lead.
