    distracted driver

Driving into work today I saw a front loading washer, two computer systems and part of basketball hoop out by curb. I just kept telling myself that I am only a "PART TIME" scrapper and leave it for the full timers! Since I joined this forum I've been wishing it was my full time gig. However, my electrical engineering job and wife keep me from making the leap lol. Oh well, its a fun hobby and helps with the bills for sure.

What's the hardest thing for you guys to drive by and not pick up?

I *might* pass on the basketball hoop if I was in a hurry... I'd pretty much have to pass on the washer if I was in the missus' ride... but no matter WHAT I was driving or how late I was running, I wouldn't pass a computer tower.

    (1) Where in NY State are you finding computer systems in the streets?! I can't even find a broken-down old "vintage" machine on craigslist for less than $200 in NY!

    (2) What kind of work do you do as an EE (if you don't mind my asking)?

    (3) Honestly, the hardest thing for me to pass by and not pick up is dessert. Certain computers might take first place and knock cake off the menu, I guess...

I am in the Syracuse area. Might have been an old word horizontal tower or even an old printer. It was behind a huge monitor and I only got a quick look. The other system was smashed open, doubt anything good was left. I will make sure I leave for work a bit earlier in the mornings so I have time to grab what will fit in my trunk. Was a warm weekend finally, so spring cleaning has started.

FLimits, I do control box design for a large OEM in the area. Mostly industrial stuff, but I get to design the occasional circuit board. My last job I designed fiber optic test equipment, much more exciting than this job, but pay is better here...

I make an oath to not drive by computer towers again! ha

I only have to pass up something too heave to lift into the truck myself, those front loading washers are too heavy for me alone. heck, it almost killed my dad and I to lift one into the truck.

I also have to pass up the heavy wood projection tvs as those are two person jobbies.

This was awhile ago. We were driving and we come across 2 OLD cast iron fireplace inserts. Me and my Dad kept trying and trying but we couldn't get them. We had to be there at least an hour trying to get them. Eventually a competitor came by and we made a deal to help each other load and we will each get one. We got the heavier one- there were 2. 4 person job

I never pass up computers. Stop, load...go...less than 3 minutes.

Waiting to find some here since they stopped support for XP, neighbor just gave me an old one the other day.

i rarely pass up anything...it is funny you posted this..today i was going to my yard, i was loaded to the hilt..even had the passenger seat an the back seat of my truck stacked full of crates and buckets...i saw and old bicycle laying in the creek...looked like todays big rain uncovered it....any how i had to drive on by..when i came home it was gone...oh well it was no big loss ..

i just hate passing things up,,i do not know if it makes since to anyone else...but i feel like i am stealing from myself if i leave a scrapable item laying somewhere..

True, I just imagine money taped to the side of every item I come across. Makes me more motivated to grab something I would normally pass. Turn it in and grab the cash!

Okay I admit to having a lions mouth and a parakeets ass. Please don't tell the wife. She still thinks I am tough.

Now that's an image I won't ever forget! Hey, not to worry, your secret is safe with me. Anyway, your wife probably knows you have a tough outer shell and a gooey marshmallow interior.
